Søren Knudsen A/S is seeking an experienced and proactive Operations Director with a solid background from the contractor or civil engineering industry. You will have a central role in the organization with responsibility to strengthen cross-functional operations and create even better alignment between people, projects, economics and processes. The position is newly established and will be an important part of the continued development of Søren Knudsen A/S.

About the job

As Operations Director you will have the overall managerial and operational responsibility for your area. A substantial part of your task will be to lead the company’s department heads and at the same time ensure an efficient and consistent operation across the organization. You do not take over the daily management of the department heads, but help make them even stronger in their roles.

Through close sparring, clear boundaries and follow-up you support them in achieving results through their employees and organization. At the same time you will play a central role in the business development. You are responsible for the preparation of larger bids and you monitor economics and capacity closely. You also work purposefully to develop structures, processes and management information that create a solid foundation for good decisions.

Your fixed base will be at the head office in Herning, but you will regularly be present at our other locations and close to the operational organization. You report directly to the managing director and become part of the company’s leadership team. Here you will have a central role as the link between daily operations and the overall strategic direction.

Your primary areas of responsibility

• Leadership and development of the departments through coaching and ongoing follow-up.
• Overall responsibility for operations, resource and capacity planning across your area.
• Financial responsibility for your own area, including budgeting and financial follow-up.
• Bidding and calculation on larger tenders and framework agreements, as well as quality assurance of bid materials.
• Follow-up on framework agreements and larger projects with focus on economy, quality, progress and customer satisfaction.
• Development and optimization of workflows and processes across the organization.
• Establishment of relevant KPIs, reporting and management information.
• Participation in strategic customer and collaboration meetings focusing on long-term relationships and continued business development.
• Close collaboration with the managing director, department heads and the company’s staff functions on the ongoing development of the organization.

About you

Your educational background is not decisive. The most important thing is that you have solid leadership experience and an in-depth understanding of the reality characteristic of the contractor and civil engineering industry. You have experience in leading through other leaders and thrive in a role where your success is largely created through the people you lead and develop. At the same time you have a strong business understanding. You can unravel the economics of projects and framework agreements, work in a structured way with key figures and familiarize yourself with extensive and complex tender materials.

We envisage that you

• Have solid leadership experience from the contractor, civil engineering or utility sector
• Have experience with leadership and development of leaders
• Have strong understanding of financial management, calculations and bidding
• Have experience with larger projects and preferably longer-term framework agreements
• Understand the link between capacity management, productivity, quality and profitability
• Work in a structured and data-driven way and have a natural interest in systems and key figures
• Have strong communication skills and can create collaboration across operations, management and staff functions
• Can operate both in practical operations and at strategic management level.
