About the job
Do you want to work with veterinary medicines, before they reach the market, and have direct influence on which treatments animals in Denmark and Europe will have access to? At the Danish Medicines Agency you will become part of a highly specialised professional environment, where you collaborate with national and European experts on the assessment of future veterinary medicines (traditional medicines, vaccines and biologicals).
Here you translate your veterinary expertise into independent assessments that help ensure effective and safe medicines for animals. You will work at the intersection of clinical practice, research, regulation and authority work, gaining insight into the latest veterinary treatments and technologies long before they become part of clinical practice.
Your primary tasks
Your specific areas of responsibility are composed according to your qualifications and experience.
You will spend most of your time assessing
- new applications for approval of veterinary medicines,
- changes to existing approvals,
- including collaboration with other European medicines authorities and the European Medicines Agency (EMA).
This will involve assessing the clinical efficacy, pharmacology, toxicology, safety and use of veterinary medicines, as well as documentation regarding residues in food and the environment. We assess both traditional medicines, vaccines and increasingly also biological medicines.
In addition you will engage in professional advisory work, including assessment of dispensing authorisations, assessment of adverse effects, handling potential supply difficulties, and responding to inquiries from companies, veterinarians, the press and other parts of the Danish Medicines Agency.
A smaller part of your daily work will consist of other tasks in the animal medicines section, e.g. development of national and European professional processes and guidelines, input to internal projects at the Danish Medicines Agency, emergency preparedness tasks, implementation of AI, meetings with Danish authorities, input to the Commission on the interpretation of veterinary-relevant legislation and outward communication.
Your daily life with us
In your potential future job you will have broad contact with international, national and internal stakeholders. You will work closely with experienced colleagues with backgrounds in clinical practice, research, the pharmaceutical industry and regulatory work. We prioritise good collegial collaboration and professional sparring, and you will be thoroughly introduced to the tasks and receive support from experienced colleagues along the way.
You will also take responsibility for your own cases, but you will never be alone. We solve many tasks together and actively use each other’s knowledge when facing complex professional challenges.
The daily life is characterised by varied tasks that must be solved with a high level of professionalism. It requires curiosity, the ability to go into detail and the desire to learn new things. We have many engaged professional discussions and challenge each other constructively to ensure the best possible assessments. At the same time we prioritise a good working environment where helpfulness, humour and collaboration are a natural part of daily life. There may be periods of high activity and tight deadlines, but the job also offers a significant degree of flexibility.
Your education, experience and personal qualifications
You are a trained veterinarian, Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM).
It is a requirement that you master English at a high level both orally and in writing, as a substantial part of the work takes place in international collaboration.
It is an advantage, but not a requirement, if you have experience with one or more of the areas below:
- Research experience, for example from PhD or other research activity.
- Immunology, pharmacology, toxicology, infectious diseases, virology, or other relevant veterinary medical fields.
- Public authority service or regulatory work.
- Clinical practice in production animals, horses or small animals.
- The pharmaceutical industry or other relevant parts of the life science sector.
In addition we would like you to
- Thrive in analysing and evaluating complex veterinary professional issues.
- Be able to balance professional thoroughness with pragmatic solutions.
- Work in a structured way and handle multiple cases and deadlines simultaneously.
- Have good collaboration skills and thrive in an environment with close professional sparring.
- Be able to communicate professional assessments clearly and precisely.
- Be curious and motivated to continuously develop your competences.
We offer
- A good working environment with a focus on well-being and good leadership.
- A unique opportunity to influence future veterinary treatments and make a difference for animals and food safety in Denmark and Europe.
- A working life at the crossroads of clinical practice, research, regulation and authority work.
- Insight into the latest veterinary treatments and technologies before they reach the market.
- The possibility to develop a specialist profile within veterinary drug evaluation and regulatory processes.
- Professional development, e.g., through training in new areas or professional courses.
- A strong professional environment with experienced veterinarians and close professional sparring.
- An extensive national and European network, including close collaboration with EMA.
- The opportunity to contribute to national and international committees, working groups and meetings.
- Focus on balance between work life and private life.
- Flexible practices with the possibility of homeworking 1-2 days a week.
