About the job

Would you like to work closely with SSI’s executive management and help solve many of the diverse tasks that cross the institute? Do you want to use your professional skills in a everyday work environment with both management and department support, legal tasks and coordination of larger focus areas? Then the maternity cover in the Directorate Secretariat at Statens Serum Institut might be for you.

Your day-to-day with us

You will become part of the Directorate Secretariat, which is a small and well-functioning secretariat of eight people – four academics, one secretary, two students and a section head.

The secretariat's main task is to support SSI’s scientific areas and contribute to realising SSI’s mission to prevent and combat infectious diseases and congenital diseases through research, surveillance, diagnostics and advice. We work, among other things, with department and executive support, strategy work, coordination of larger professional tasks and legal tasks such as access to information, consultations and the legislative program.

One of our lawyers goes on maternity leave at the end of 2026, and we are therefore seeking a colleague for a maternity cover in the coming year. The tasks will be adjusted to the candidate we hire, but may include:

  • Handling of requests for access to information and responding to citizen inquiries in collaboration with the secretariat’s student assistant and lawyer
  • Drafting of bills, regulations and consultation responses in collaboration with the institute’s other professional and supporting departments
  • Departmental liaison, including coordination of orders from the Ministry of the Interior and Health’s department as well as other authorities in the group
  • Executive support, including preparation of cases and decision proposals for SSI’s Directorate and occasional PA tasks for the managing director
  • Coordination and follow-up on larger focus areas, e.g. the Directorate Secretariat’s tasks within crisis management and contingency planning

The tasks are varied, and you will have a strong influence on how you solve and prioritise them. At the same time there is always an opportunity for sparring with both the management and your colleagues in the Directorate Secretariat and the rest of the institute.

You will have a central position at SSI and will therefore have close and ongoing cooperation with, among others, the Ministry of Health and the Interior, other authorities in the group and professionals at SSI. You will also work closely with SSI’s management, so it is important that you enjoy working close to top management and with tasks that often require a high level of confidentiality and precision.

In the Directorate Secretariat we place emphasis on an informal tone, trust, good collegiality and helping each other. We highly value sparring and knowledge sharing and also have room for social activities – for example shared breakfast and SSI’s summer party, Oktoberfest and Christmas lunch.

Your education, experience and personal qualifications

We are looking for a colleague who is either a recent graduate or has several years of experience – preferably from public administration and possibly with experience in management or departmental liaison.

We assume you have a legal, social science or other relevant advanced education at master’s level.

We also emphasise that you

  • work in a structured way, take responsibility and focus on finding solutions
  • are keen and able to collaborate with many different professional groups and across the organisation
  • can adapt when tasks and priorities change
  • are a strong communicator and convey information concisely, clearly and correctly

The most important thing for us is that you are motivated by the tasks and eager to learn. You do not need to know everything from the start, but we expect you to want to familiarize yourself with new areas, ask questions and develop in the job.

We offer

We offer an exciting and varied job close to SSI’s management and with wide contact to both professional environments at SSI, the ministry and other authorities. You will have the opportunity to develop professionally through varied tasks, close sparring and insight into the work in a large public institution with an important societal purpose.

You will have a flexible daily life with a good balance between work and leisure. SSI has a 37-hour work week including a lunch break, a flexitime agreement and the possibility to work from home up to two days a week.

In addition, SSI has an active staff association and sports club with, among other things, group training, gym facilities, a Friday bar and various social events.

SSI is centrally located in Copenhagen with good public transport options and free parking on campus.

About the appointment

The position is therefore intended to be filled from 1 December 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is 37 hours per week. The employment is valid from the date of hire and for one year ahead.

You will be employed under the applicable collective agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Central Organisation of Academics. Employment can be as a full-time officer (fuldmægtig) or as a senior consultant (specialkonsulent) depending on qualifications.

Feel free to contact us

For more information about the position, please call section head Mathilde Winkel Madsen on tel. 3268 8596 or lawyer in the Directorate Secretariat Anne Marie Nordby Michael on tel. 3268 3253.
