About the job

We are looking for a responsible, flexible, and independent prison teacher for Nørre Snede and Møgelkær Prison, who wants to make a difference and contribute to safely guiding people towards a life without crime. If that’s you, read on.

For teaching at Nørre Snede Prison and Møgelkær Prison, a prison teacher with an average weekly working time of 37 hours is sought as of January 1, 2027.

As a prison teacher you will become part of a team of 6 prison teachers, 1 subject teacher, 3 advisors, and 1 vocational education coordinator, who together take on the various tasks related to teaching inmates. You will therefore participate in all aspects of the teaching task. You will help motivate and retain the inmates, and you will plan and conduct your own teaching on average 21 lessons per week and lead the inmates to examinations.

About the Job

Teaching takes place in small groups and, in some cases, one-to-one. At Nr. Snede Prison there is limited internet access, so teaching is predominantly analogue and in a few cases via a specially secured network.

At Møgelkær, teaching is conducted in an open regime, so class sizes are different from Nr. Snede. Møgelkær’s school is not limited by daily segregation, which provides other possibilities in the didactic planning.

The core task will be teaching inmates at AVU and FVU levels and developing a professional learning environment that is based on a high degree of differentiated approaches to the inmates. As a teacher you are responsible for testing, placement at the correct level, teaching in small groups, updating individual learning plans, and you will have administrative tasks in connection with teaching.

We are about to adapt and develop the school in Møgelkær, which you as a future teacher with us will have a significant influence on, in collaboration with the team.

You will participate in interdisciplinary case handling with teaching colleagues, a school secretary, advisors, social workers, prison guards, foremen, therapists, etc. In other words, you will have a broad collaboration across the entire prison.

We expect that

∙ You are a trained teacher and can teach Danish, English, or Mathematics – preferably at the FVU level. If you have other major subjects within the AVU curriculum, including science subjects, it is a big plus

∙ You are able to independently plan and handle your teaching duties, and you are solid in your subject knowledge.

∙ You want to teach inmates who often have lost faith in their academic abilities.

∙ You can show tolerance – both academically and humanly – and have a positive view of people, respect for the individual, and an interest in crime prevention work.

∙ You can respect a fixed, structured prison environment where order and safety are key words, and where the job requires various safety and risk assessments during your work day.

∙ You can keep an overview and are responsible, just as you can show determination.

∙ You are good at communicating with both inmates and colleagues from different professional groups.

About you

You should be eager to work with teaching in a daily life characterized by change and challenges, and with participants who differ substantially from many other learner groups, but who also give many positive experiences.

You will be part of a collaboration with the prison’s other staff in a workplace characterized by a good working environment.

We attach importance to starting from respect for the individual person and working holistically and solution-oriented in relation to the challenges that arise and the tasks that must be solved.

We offer

∙ a thorough introduction to the work and the workplace

∙ to become part of a workplace that pulls together, with a goal of making a difference for the inmates

∙ a daily life characterized by changes and challenges, but also a warm and humorous approach to each other

∙ interdisciplinary collaboration

∙ professional sparring across Denmark’s Prisons

Salary and employment terms

Employment and remuneration are in accordance with the general agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Teachers’ Union and CO10, as well as the local agreements for prison teachers and others. In addition, allowances may be agreed depending on experience and qualifications.

∙ The position is full-time with an average of 37 hours per week.

∙ The employer is Denmark’s Prisons.

∙ The workplace is located at Vejlevej 45, 8766 Nørre Snede and Møgelkærvej 15, 7130 Juelsminde. Travel between both campuses for teaching is to be expected.
