About the job

Do you want to help develop- and strengthen the efforts toward the women and men who stand up for Denmark's security in hotspots around the world? Do you have strong collaboration skills and experience with financial management and controlling? Then we might have a position ready for you in the Veterans Centre's Veteran Secretariat in Ringsted.

About us

The Veterans Centre is a government agency under the Danish Defence, whose task is to ensure that all current and future veterans and their next of kin at all times receive the preparation, advice, support, treatment and recognition they are entitled to and need, and which helps them move forward. To support our complex task solution, we have in the Veterans Centre employed a wide range of professional backgrounds, from social workers and psychologists to researchers, military personnel and academics.

The Veterans Centre coordinates the many initiatives in the veteran field and supports the work of the Armed Forces and the Ministry of Defence, with a basis in veteran policy. The veteran field and thus also the Veterans Centre enjoy strong political attention, which greatly shapes the work of the Veterans Centre. Geographically, the Veterans Centre is distributed across seven service locations around Denmark. The main office is located at the beautiful old barracks in Ringsted, which will also be your fixed workplace.

The Veterans Centre's Veteran Secretariat is part of the Leadership Secretariat, which also includes a communications element and a leadership element. The Veteran Secretariat consists of a further three employees who work closely together to support, advise, coordinate and facilitate the task solution between the Veterans Centre and stakeholders such as civilian veterans associations, private initiatives and foundations.

You will become part of a strong team that collaborates with each other to bring all relevant perspectives into play – from professional knowledge over economics to communications – so we ensure fast, solid solutions for the benefit of veterans and their next of kin.

About the position

In the Veterans Centre we need to increase our focus on supervision of grant funds and controlling of pools and grants. Your work will contribute to the Armed Forces achieving optimal effect from the veteran area’s offers and initiatives. The concrete tasks will be to:

  • advise and spar with the economics of initiatives and projects within the veteran area, in close collaboration with colleagues and voluntary actors in the veteran field
  • handle application processes for the Veterans Centre's pools
  • in collaboration with colleagues, provide input to resource allocation in the veteran area, for increased utilization of available resources
  • manage administration and controlling of government appropriated funds
  • conduct control of the implementation of activities that receive grants
  • solve other tasks related to the Veteran Secretariat's area of responsibility.

The majority of your task solving will take place at the office, but you will also need to participate in meetings with voluntary actors and veteran associations around the country. Meetings may, in some cases, be held outside normal working hours. Depending on your strengths and competencies, you will eventually have the opportunity to contribute to consultation responses, handling inquiries to the Veteran Secretariat, and support the operation of the Veteran Secretariat's overall task solution.

About you

We expect that you have a relevant economic/financial background, experience with financial management and financial flair. You have a strong economic understanding, and you can connect detail with an overview, and translate this into results in a politically governed organization with many stakeholders and high media attention. It is an advantage if you previously have worked with handling public grants and foundations.

We expect you to take pride in being thorough in your task solving. You orient yourself towards the task and collaborate with a focus on reaching a common solution through dialogue. You are flexible, accommodating and good at creating—and entering into—relationships. It is a prerequisite that you are open and curious and want to develop yourself together with your new colleagues.

It is also important that you can work independently and take responsibility for your part of the Veteran Secretariat's task solution, so your colleagues can focus on their part of the task. You value and contribute to a good working environment, with room for smiles and collegial fellowship.

If you have previously worked with voluntary organizations, have experience with the veteran area or knowledge of the Ministry of Defence's organization, this can strengthen your candidacy. Alternatively, we expect you to have an interest in getting to know the area.

Employment terms

The appointment takes place in accordance with the applicable General Agreement between the Ministry of Finance and Public Employees Organizations – The State Area (OAO-S General Agreement) and the Organization Agreement for Office Clerks, Laboratory Assistants and IT Employees (HK) in the state.

Depending on your qualifications and competences, there is an opportunity for negotiation of additional pay. There is a government-funded pension scheme attached to the position.

Workplace is in Ringsted

As an employee within the Ministry of Defence's area, you are covered by some special terms. You must, among other things, be security cleared and maintain the clearance throughout the period of employment.

You as an employee have an obligation to render service outside the country's borders, including at units in international operations with a view to participating in conflict prevention, peacekeeping, peacebuilding, humanitarian and other similar operations.
