About the job
Head of Discipline - Roads & Airports
Aarhus
Do you want to have the responsibility for a community with high professional quality, where people, well-being and professionalism go hand in hand? Are you motivated by creating direction, developing talent and bringing a team together around a common goal? And do you believe that the best results are created through trust, collaboration and clear leadership?
Then you now have the opportunity to contribute to developing both people and projects in the role of Head of Discipline, Roads & Airports.
Create clear direction, progress and durable solutions
To strengthen our Road & Airports department, we are looking for an engaged Head of Discipline to lead a team of 25 skilled colleagues in Aarhus. The discipline is part of COWI's Engineering Unit Transportation West, which consists of seven disciplines that work closely together, both on leadership, competence development and project delivery.
We work on some of Denmark's most significant infrastructure projects. The projects include road and airport projects for local clients, public authorities and international actors, as well as construction tasks in energy, data centers and building, both locally and internationally. Common to the tasks is that they make a real difference to society.
As discipline lead you will have a central role in creating coherence between strategy, people and results. You must ensure high technical quality and solid project execution, but just as important is that you create engagement, well-being and development in the team. You will be a culture bearer and inspirer for an environment where professional pride and job satisfaction go hand in hand.
Your main areas of responsibility
- Contribute to and translate strategies and action plans into concrete initiatives that support the discipline's development and business.
- Take on the role of senior specialist, project manager or discipline leader on key projects and ensure high quality in the deliverables.
- Create overview of competencies and capacity in the team and ensure the right staffing through recruitment, development and optimization of resources.
- Develop and coach employees through clear goals, ongoing dialogue and constructive feedback.
- Support an inclusive and trust-based working environment where diversity is seen as a value.
Leadership with direction and human insight
You believe that leadership is about inspiring and setting a clear and meaningful direction – and at the same time creating space for others to grow and take responsibility. You may already have leadership experience, or you may be facing your first formal leadership responsibility. The most important thing is that you are willing, curious and brave enough to step into the role and develop yourself as a leader.
You create following through dialogue, presence and clear expectations. You thrive with responsibility, give constructive feedback and are motivated by seeing others succeed. At the same time you have a view of both business and quality and are motivated to translate ambitions and strategy into concrete action in everyday life.
In addition you have
- A relevant engineering education background or equivalent.
- In-depth knowledge of infrastructure, roads and/or airport geometry.
- Experience with resource and project management.
- Solid business understanding and the ability to translate strategy into practice.
- Good ability to communicate messages clearly and to handle relationships with different stakeholders.
- A genuine motivation to build diverse and high-performing teams.
