In-home caregiver for an 8-year-old boy

Do you want to make a difference for a family who needs a breather in everyday life? We are looking for you who want to be a substitute in the home.

About the job

As the parents' substitute in the home, you will help a boy aged 8.

The task consists of spending time with the boy when the parents need a breather, or want to create more time and space for their youngest son.

The boy has autism (Asperger's) and ADHD, but it is primarily the autistic traits that are expressed in daily life. He needs predictability and thrives best when he knows in advance what will happen.

He also has difficulty coming up with activities himself and often asks: ”What should I do?” His own suggestions will almost always be computer or television. That gives him calm and security because it does not require the same energy and initiative as activities where he must be active and figure out what to do.

Ideally you are

It is important that you can sense where the boy is and challenge him a little without pressuring him more than he can cope with. After a school day the boy is often very tired and needs to recharge, typically by playing on the computer.

In time, when the relationship and sense of security are in place, we hope you can help the boy get out a little more and have other good experiences. This could be a trip to the cinema, the swimming pool or something completely different that you both find an interest in.

Working hours

The working hours are 15 hours per month. The family is open to dialogue about which days and times suit best. The family envisions a weekday where the boy is picked up at school, and you go home together, as well as every other weekend. The family lives only about 100 meters from the school. Weekends can also be an option by agreement.

Agreements about working hours will take into account that the boy needs fixed frameworks, predictability and good routines.

We envision days where you work two to three hours, for example

• one weekday per week, where you pick the boy up from school at 15:30 and stay with him until 18:30
• one day every other weekend, where you work within the time window 10:00 and 15:30

Employment terms

Since part of the service may involve excursions, the workplace may vary. However there will be a base in 2500 Valby.

The hourly wage for substitutes is DKK 132.51 per hour.

When you apply for this position, you consent to Copenhagen Municipality sharing relevant information about you with the child's parents so that the best match can be achieved. This is necessary because the parents decide who should be considered for employment. If the parents see you as a possible match, Copenhagen Municipality will facilitate further contact between you and the given family.
