About the job

A one-year introductory position (no. 1309140-60-i-01) in clinical biochemistry with a research component is available for appointment from 1 December 2026 or as soon thereafter at the Department of Clinical Biochemistry, Bispebjerg and Frederiksberg Hospital, the workplace being Bispebjerg Hospital. The position is without night shifts with occasional telephone duty during daytime on weekdays (8:00–15:15).

The position can be applied for by younger doctors who have completed the clinical basic medical training for doctors (CBT).

Introduction position in clinical biochemistry entails

  • Research and development

Research and biomedical development are an integrated part of the specialty training in clinical biochemistry. You should therefore be interested in obtaining an introduction to a research-based specialty training, participating in research, and having scientific initiative. During employment you will have the opportunity, under expert supervision, to design and carry out a defined research project.

There are two professors employed at the department, and the main research areas of the department are basic and clinical neurochemistry, circadian rhythm research, and mass spectrometry-based proteomics analyses for pathophysiological and diagnostic use within a number of disease groups. You can read more about the department's research here https://www.bispebjerghospital.dk/afdelinger-og-klinikker/klinisk-biokemisk-afdeling/forskning/sider/default.aspx

  • Counseling and teaching

During employment you will be introduced to the clinical biochemistry specialty and gain specialized knowledge about biochemical analyses and their clinical applicability. Clinical biochemistry plays a key role in almost all specialties, and you will provide advice on rational ordering of biochemical analyses, interpretation of analytical results, and selection of special analyses. You will join the department's on-call rotation, which covers daytime on weekdays (8:00–15:15). You will also be required to participate in teaching of doctors, biomedical scientists and other professional groups at the department.

  • Operational, quality assurance and development tasks

You will be introduced to the department's daily operations and development tasks and during your employment you will be attached to different analysis sections. In collaboration with the responsible consultant and the chief biomedical scientist you will take on tasks for the analysis section, e.g. evidence-based expansion of the analytical repertoire, more efficient patient pathways or analysis-related quality assurance tasks.

  • Influence, collaboration and deepening

You will have influence over the planning of your own work. We place emphasis on independence and commitment in solving tasks, but also on the ability to collaborate across disciplines, as many tasks are solved in collaborative teams. There will usually be time for deepening, so the tasks can be solved on a professionally substantiated basis.

An introductory position in clinical biochemistry at Bispebjerg Hospital is thus for you who want a positive, professionally strong, flexible and dynamic working environment with the opportunity to strengthen and further develop the above-mentioned competencies and collaborate across specialties and professional groups.

Specialist training in clinical biochemistry

The specialist training in clinical biochemistry takes 5 years and consists of an introductory position (12 months) and a main training position (48 months).

You can read about the specialty clinical biochemistry on the Danish Society for Clinical Biochemistry website (www.dskb.dk) and about the training to become a specialist in clinical biochemistry in the “Goal description for the specialist training in Clinical Biochemistry” under the section “Education” on the website.
