About the job

FAM OUH is among Denmark's largest emergency departments

In FAM there are 14 senior physicians, including a professor of emergency medicine, as well as a chief physician.

In addition there are 6 HCU doctors, 8 introductory doctors as well as 6 KBU doctors. A further 9 KBU doctors have half time in FAM and half time in the geriatrics, pulmonology or gastroenterology department.

In addition, FAM is staffed with on-call teams from six internal medicine subspecialties consisting of back-up on-call 1 (specialist), back-up on-call 2 (primary training doctor), 2 first on-calls, sweeper and medical middle on-call. All on-call teams work in person. Orthopedic surgeons, parenchymal surgeons and neurologists are employed in specialty departments with service in FAM and they all receive their acute patients in FAM.

FAM also receives acute patients from the specialties gynecology/obs, pediatrics, thoracic and vascular surgery as well as neurosurgery, who are all seen by doctors from the relevant specialties.

Composition of the education

The introductory posts in emergency medicine at OUH are composed of a total of 6 months in emergency medicine/internal medicine, 3 months in orthopedics and 3 months in parenchymal surgery. The program starts in emergency medicine/internal medicine, while the distribution of the stays can vary. By agreement the intern after some months of employment can see patients from all 3 specialties on the same day.

All specialties are physically co-located in the FAM building. In the internal/acute medical pathway, supervision is provided by HU and specialists in emergency medicine and internal medicine. In the surgical departments, supervision is provided by HU and specialists in orthopedics and surgery. At OUH, prehospital undifferentiated patients are received in the acute medical part of FAM, but the majority of patients are internal medicine.

Introductory doctors are placed as middle on-call. In case of lack of experience in internal medicine, they start as on-call.

In addition to mandatory courses in clinical guidance, the introductory training in emergency medicine at OUH also includes courses in, among other things, ABCD review, medical emergency call training and cardiac arrest education. In total, 10 course days are offered annually, of which EMCC and mentor course are mandatory and the rest can be planned according to the introductory doctor's areas of interest.

Areas of work

The introductory doctor must be interested in functioning in a training-intensive department with a focus on high-quality patient care integrated with education of equally high quality of both younger colleagues, including students, in various training programs as well as cross-disciplinary staff.

The position entails that the introductory doctor, together with the rest of the on-call team, prepares clinical assessments, admission notes and diagnostic and treatment plans for acute patients. In addition, ward rounds and medical emergency calls.

We expect the introductory doctor to be interested in using acute ultrasound diagnostics after proper training.

We expect to conduct interviews on d. 3 November 2026 .
