About the job

Are you motivated by the societal benefit of making research data open and accessible? Do you have experience in developing modern digital solutions across both front- and back-end technologies? Do you thrive in a collaborative environment where software development, data and user needs meet to support research and innovation in Denmark? Then you may be our upcoming IT developer.

We are looking for an IT developer for both operation and development of Denmark's Research Portal, which collects and presents data about the Danish research landscape. You will be part of an area in strong development, where data, quality and new user-focused solutions are the driving forces.

About the position

The position is based in the Office Research, Technology and Culture with 28 employees, covering a range of societally relevant statistics including research and innovation. Team NORA (National Open Research Analytics), of which you will be a part, is a product development team consisting of several disciplines.

The NORA team has at year’s end become part of Statistics Denmark, and we therefore also devote efforts to consolidating the research portal in collaboration with colleagues from other parts of Statistics Denmark. The initiative behind Denmark's Research Portal and NORA is funded by the Danish Agency for Education and Research (UFS), with which we have a close collaboration.

As a developer for the operation and development of Denmark's Research Portal you will play a central role in maintaining and further developing Denmark's Research Portal. We are primarily seeking a front-end oriented developer with an interest in visualization and platform operations, while experience with back-end is an advantage as the team works with agile methods where we complement each other in task solving. Your tasks will include, among others:

  • Design, development and maintenance of applications, services and interfaces in the portal's ecosystem
  • Development and maintenance of back-end services in Python and related technologies
  • Development of APIs and services that enable integration between systems and support future product development
  • Development of intuitive user interfaces using modern JavaScript frameworks such as React, Vue or similar
  • Design and implementation of user-oriented applications such as data visualizations, dashboards and analysis tools
  • Support for user testing, monitoring and continuous improvements based on data and insights

Competencies

The work includes both maintenance and modernization of existing interfaces in the portal's ecosystem as well as participation in development projects that strengthen the portal's datasets, functionality, usability and analytical value for the research landscape. You should therefore be comfortable with a broad range of tasks covering front-end development, back-end services, APIs, data processing and infrastructure tasks as needed. We know that no candidate will match all the technologies and competencies below.

Therefore we encourage you to apply even if your experience does not cover all areas, as long as you have a solid technical foundation, a desire to learn and motivation to work in a small, collaborative team.

The platform is expected to be fully integrated into Statistics Denmark's overall system portfolio in due course, and therefore we are seeking a developer who is curious about new systems, can navigate complex integrations and has experience with or an interest in Python development. Ideally you have experience with:

  • Python development and API development using FastAPI or similar technologies
  • Modern JavaScript frameworks such as React, Vue, Angular or similar
  • REST APIs and service-oriented architectures
  • HTML5, CSS3 and responsive web design
  • Databases (e.g., MongoDB and Neo4j), data modeling and data processing
  • Data visualization technologies such as D3.js, Chart.js or similar
  • Search technologies such as Elasticsearch or similar
  • Git, CI/CD processes and collaborative software development
  • Accessibility standards (WCAG) and performance optimization
  • Experience with secure software development, including handling security vulnerabilities throughout the development life cycle
  • Agile development methods including code reviews and testing lifecycle.

You will work closely with analysts and IT developers internally in the team and across the organization, the Danish Agency for Education and Research, external national and global partners and user representatives within the Danish research landscape. Strong collaboration skills and written and spoken communication are therefore a prerequisite.

Salary and employment

Salary and terms of employment are based on qualifications in accordance with the relevant collective agreement. Qualification supplements to the position may potentially be negotiated.

The appointment will as a rule be as an executive officer (fuldmægtig) under the applicable collective agreement for academics between the Ministry of Finance and a number of academic organizations.

The appointment will be full-time / 37 hours and with start date 1 December 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter.

It is a condition of employment that you can obtain security clearance, and maintain this throughout your employment.
