About the job
Svendborg maternity and postnatal ward is seeking new midwife colleagues!
Would you like a sustainable midwifery life, where there is time for the good birth process and a focus on your core competencies, then this is the position for you!
The maternity and postnatal ward is seeking a number of midwives for both temporary positions and permanent positions from 1.12.26. We need midwives on the delivery suite who are primarily on the delivery ward but we also need at least one midwife who will work half of her time on the delivery ward and half on the postnatal ward. Since we are one combined department, everyone should be able to help each other across units. That means shifts on the postnatal ward can also occur for the midwives who are primarily on the delivery ward.
What can we offer you?
- An department that aims to be the birthplace for pregnant families, with a focus on well-planned individual maternity care and birth experience
- Midwife work with the opportunity for diverse tasks
- Focus on professional development, including scheduled team training and skill training
- A good multidisciplinary working environment where openness, respect and professionalism are highly prioritized.
What do we expect from you?
- That you actively contribute to strengthening a good and healthy working environment
- That you thrive in both working independently and in teams
- That you are passionate about helping to develop our small birth centre
- That you value flexibility in the tasks you perform
At Svendborg delivery ward we have staff of all ages and we believe that you can have a long and good midwifery life when there is variation in the tasks you undertake.
As we are a smaller department, the tasks and busyness vary, and you will therefore be engaged with both pregnant women, those giving birth and those in the postnatal period. The interdisciplinary collaboration across professions is welcoming and helpful.
We work both in fixed shifts and on-call shifts, and there are always two midwives in the department when there is a birth in the house. We also strive to always have two midwives at the birth bed during the delivery.
As a department we offer a good introduction program, so you get a secure start. We focus on a good start whether you are newly qualified or experienced. In addition, we offer certification in STAN/safe deliveries.
Our obstetric unit in Svendborg
The obstetric unit in Svendborg consists of two units; delivery ward and postnatal ward. We are an interdisciplinary staff group consisting of midwives, nurses and doctors. In addition, we are a teaching site for midwifery students in year 1 and 2, just as younger doctors in the department work and train with us.
We are a small specialist department with dedicated and competent staff, and we handle approximately 900 of the region's births annually.
Since we do not have a children’s department on site, we primarily handle uncomplicated births, and we place great emphasis on preserving normal birth – for both first-time and multiparous mothers.
Physically we consist of a delivery ward with four birth rooms and a postnatal ward with space for five admitted postnatal families. All our birth rooms have been converted into sensory rooms. The postnatal ward also has an outpatient function and handles the postnatal phone for all of Funen. We have midwifery clinics spread across South Funen and on Langeland. We are part of OUH, Odense, and therefore have a close collaboration across our campuses.
The department management consists of Chief Physician, Morten Lebech, and Deputy Chief Midwife Julie Ribe Bagge.
