About the job

Chapel Director for The Royal Chapel

The Royal Danish Theatre seeks a chapel director for The Royal Chapel for a fixed-term position from January 1, 2027 to June 15, 2027.

As director for The Royal Chapel you will, together with the musicians, the music administration and other collaborators, contribute to the theatre's goal of bringing people closer to experiences with performing arts and music at a high artistic level.

The chapel performs operas, ballets and its own concerts and therefore has a central role at the theatre with many touchpoints. Your tasks as director are therefore varied and reflect a dynamic organization with a high level of activity. Therefore, presence, empathy and collaboration skills are important qualities that you will need in your daily interactions with our artistic and administrative staff. Specifically, you will have, among others, the following tasks:

  • Carrying out and servicing the musicians, especially in connection with rehearsals and performances, including checking in attendance
  • Receiving urgent sick leave and calling up on-call staff/assistants
  • Issuing and registering keys to the musicians' lockers
  • Servicing conductors in general and soloists in connection with the chapel's own productions
  • Hosting the chapel's chamber concerts
  • Supplementing the orchestra technicians during setup and performing adjustments to orchestra and chamber configurations
  • Coordinating with production managers and producers regarding execution, safety checks etc.
  • Handling suddenly arising situations and resolving them as best as possible

It is a clear advantage if you have experience from similar jobs within performing arts production as well as an education or basic knowledge of the classical music world or performing arts production. In addition, we expect you to be proficient in common IT systems and curious to work with new digital tools.

You will join a daily team consisting of a director besides you, with whom you coordinate ongoing tasks and shifts. You will have a close collaboration with the rest of the chapel administration and the management of the music department.

The appointment starts on January 1, 2027. The position is full-time. Employment and remuneration will be in accordance with the current collective agreement for The Royal Theatre's theatre technicians.

A substantial part of your working time will be in the evenings and on weekends.

If you need further information, contact the administrative head in the music department Trine Bielefeldt Stjernø at [email protected]
