About the job

Do you want to help develop teaching and create new pathways into the school community for children and young people with long-standing concerning school absence?

Slagelse Municipality's Absence School is looking for a teacher or educator with teaching competencies who would like to combine teaching, relationship work and the development of new participation opportunities for children and young people.

We are particularly looking for a colleague who can contribute to developing and establishing a flexible teaching effort where academic learning, well-being and participation are thought of together.

The Absence School is aimed at students in grades 4–9 with long-standing, concerning school absence. We are curious about what lies behind the absence and how we, together with the student and their surroundings, can create new opportunities for participation.

Through individual programs, student conversations, teaching, social activities and group programs, we work together with students, families and district schools to support a gradual and sustainable return to the school community. In close collaboration with students, families and district schools, we help to support a gradual and sustainable return to the school community.

You will become part of a small team where sparring, flexibility and joint development are central elements. This means that you will have a great influence on your work day and the opportunity to shape the development of the effort. At the same time, it requires that you thrive with independent responsibility, can navigate between different partners and find motivation in a professional community that looks different from a traditional school.

The Absence School is affiliated with Antvorskov School and participates in the Ministry of Children and Education's three-year trial with online teaching and educational offers for students with long-term school absence.

Your tasks

  • To contribute to the development, organization and implementation of flexible teaching offers, based on the students' different prerequisites and needs.
  • To plan teaching that creates opportunities for academic mastery, motivation and gradual participation in learning communities.
  • Relationship work and individual student conversations focusing on the student’s perspective, well-being and participation.
  • Identification of school absence issues and the development and follow-up of individual action plans.
  • To create coherence and development in complex student trajectories through coordination and close cooperation with students, families, district schools, PPR (Pedagogical Psychological Service) and other relevant actors.
  • To contribute with creative and flexible solutions when existing frameworks and approaches do not sufficiently support the student’s participation.
  • Planning and carrying out social activities and group programs.
  • Ongoing development, evaluation and qualification of the Absence School's practices.

We are looking for a colleague who

  • has teaching and didactic competencies and a desire to actively influence the development of the teaching part of the Absence School
  • has a clear and affirming view of children and is curious about what children and young people's behavior and absence tell about their needs and opportunities for participation
  • has a holistic perspective and can maintain an overview in complex processes where many perspectives, disciplines and efforts must work together
  • is creative and solution-oriented and dares to think in new possibilities when common solutions do not suffice
  • can work independently, take initiative and create structure and development in a daily life with varying tasks
  • thrives in a small team where tasks and responsibilities are shared, and where one both stands on one's own feet and actively contributes to the common work
  • can bridge between families’ and professional perspectives and create a common direction in complex collaborations
  • is relationship-strong and meets children, young people, families and collaborators with curiosity, respect and understanding
  • contributes to joint professional development with reflection, curiosity and the courage to constructively challenge existing understandings and practices
