About the job
Employee for mental health in public housing areas
Employee for mental health in public housing areas
Want to work close to daily life in Aarhus' public housing areas and help people in mental distress find their way to the right support?
Aarhus Municipality is seeking an employee for a new city-wide initiative, which we develop together with SIND and public housing organizations.
About the position
You will be one half of a new two-person team. You are employed in Health and Prevention in Aarhus Municipality, while your closest colleague is a psychologist employed by SIND. You will work as one team with shared tasks and joint responsibility for the initiative.
A large part of your working week will take place in the public housing areas. Here you will learn the local actors to know, connect with existing activities and be visible and accessible to both residents and the people they meet in daily life.
You should be a safe first contact for people in mental distress – and for e.g. caretakers, housing social workers, municipal staff, volunteers or neighbours who are concerned about a person and are unsure what they can do.
When a citizen needs further help, your task does not end by telling where the help can be found. You help create the concrete connection to the relevant municipal, regional or voluntary offers.
The initiative starts in selected public housing areas and should be continuously developed based on the experiences you gain.
Your tasks
Together with your colleague you will among other things
- be regularly present in selected housing areas and build relationships with the people, organizations and activities that already exist locally
- conduct conversations with residents in mental distress with a focus on listening, creating an overview and finding a relevant next step
- build a concrete bridge to existing offers and follow up when there is a need to ensure that contact is established
- develop and deliver short, practical courses for e.g. caretakers, rental staff, tenant boards and municipal staff on spotting distress, taking the first conversation and helping further
- provide sparring to people who meet residents in distress in their daily work or voluntary engagement
- gather relevant actors across the municipality, housing organizations and civil society so experiences are shared and concrete challenges can be solved together
- document your work simply and systematically, so we continuously can learn what works and adjust the initiative.
We imagine that you
- have a relevant education within health, social work or similar
- have experience with mental health, well-being or citizens in vulnerable life situations
- are good at creating contact and trust – also with people you do not know beforehand
- can have a conversation with a person in distress while maintaining an eye on what the next concrete step should be
- can stand in front of a group of caretakers, volunteers or colleagues and convey professional knowledge clearly and practically
- want to work closely with one colleague, even though you are employed in two different organizations
- can create structure in a daily life where a large part of the work takes place in the housing areas
- are curious about what already works locally before you develop something new
- preferably have experience with housing-social work
We offer
- A newly created position with considerable room for action and the opportunity to shape the initiative
- A meaningful job close to residents and practice
- A strong professional environment in Health and Prevention and SIND
- Close collaboration with housing organizations and civil society
- An employer with a focus on trust, collaboration and learning
Employment terms
You will be employed in Public Health Aarhus in Globus1, Health and Prevention, Aarhus Municipality. The position entails that you and your colleague from SIND together have a fixed working day in Public Health Aarhus in Globus1, a fixed working day in SIND and 3 workdays in public housing areas.
Together with a project manager you and your colleague from SIND will develop and implement the initiative in a selected housing area - the idea is that the initiative will, over the course of 3 years, spread to more housing areas.
Working hours will generally fall within normal office hours, but you should expect that in connection with events in the housing area there may be evening and weekend work.
About the department
You will become part of Public Health Aarhus in Globus1, where 18 enthusiastic colleagues all work with health promotion, prevention and rehabilitation based on an explicit goal to reduce health inequality.
We offer a varied job where two days are rarely the same, with a high degree of freedom to shape the framework. If you dare to think unconventionally to reach the goal, we also welcome new ideas.
With us, high professional standards, flexibility and a sense of humor are important parts of everyday life. We also value good collegial relations, and we help each other with both the trivial, the challenging and the really difficult.
