About the job

As one of our very experienced nurses has retired, we are seeking a new colleague for our organ surgical outpatient clinic.

So, if you want to help provide excellent nursing care to cancer patients in the surgical pathway, this is a fantastic opportunity!

About the outpatient clinic

Our primary focus is cancer treatment – from evaluation and diagnosis until the surgical part of the treatment is completed.

The outpatient clinic is one unit, but consists of three exciting specialties

Organ surgical specialty: Focus is primarily on patients with bowel cancer, but we also treat patients with colon- and rectal cancer, as well as inflammatory bowel, proctological-, and other abdominal surgical diseases.

Breast surgical specialty: Focus is primarily on patients with breast cancer, but there are also patients with benign conditions here.

Plastic surgical specialty: Plastic surgery is a broad specialty. We see, among others, patients with mole- and skin cancer as well as patients for reconstructive surgery.

This position is, as a rule, in the organ surgical specialty. Training in one of the other specialties may become relevant. If it becomes relevant, it will be based on your potential and in light of the needs of the outpatient clinic.

The position in the outpatient clinic

Work in the outpatient clinic is highly autonomous and the professionalism is high.

You will be mentored with a mentor by your side. Independence comes in stages, and when you are ready. We train you starting from your competencies, and based on how you learn best.

Sparring and exchange of experience with colleagues is a natural part of daily life. There is great security in and willingness to share one's own practice. Collaboration is close, also interdisciplinary.

The work is varied and includes, among other things, planning and coordination of patient pathways, communication and crisis intervention, preparation for surgery, etc.

We regard patients and relatives as equal partners. The nursing is based on professionalism and ethical considerations, individual needs and preferences, and is carried out in a good, trustworthy and present relationship.

Despite the seriousness of our work, we have a good sense of humor and room to have fun.

We value a broad range of personalities in the group of nurses, as it provides good dynamics. We also look at your personality and how you fit into the group.

We want a nurse who

  • Is empathetic, calm and present.
  • Is strong in communication with patients and relatives.
  • Is a team player, but also capable of working independently.
  • Is positive, open and inclusive.
  • Is good at navigating and collaborating in a changing everyday life.
  • Wants to develop and become skilled.
  • Has experience with the surgical specialty and perhaps with coordinating patient pathways.

Other possibilities in this position

  • If you are an experienced colorectal nurse, there may be an opportunity in this position to work with pathway coordination.
  • Opportunity to work with students and, in time, to become a clinical supervisor.
  • Opportunity to work with duty roster planning.
  • Knowledge and experience with postoperative nursing in our ward:

At SLB we have staffing thinning. This position includes weekend shifts in our ward – on average every 4th weekend in both day and evening shifts.

The work in the ward is adapted to your competencies, and you will be trained in specific tasks as needed.

Your contribution by covering weekend shifts in the ward helps ensure good quality for our patients throughout the entire course of treatment, and makes a huge difference for our colleagues who are employed there.

The department and the hospital

As the Patients' Cancer Hospital, our primary task is to provide care and treatment to patients with cancer. This is also reflected in our outpatient activity.

We have a very high patient satisfaction, which we are proud of and strive to maintain.

We are 24 nurses in the outpatient clinic, distributed across the three specialties.

In addition to the outpatient clinic, the Department of Organ and Plastic Surgery has attached operating theatre, ward and endoscopic department.

Working hours: 30-37 hours per week.
