About the job

A rare opportunity to work at Denmark's smallest island hospital

as we develop and expand Ærø Hospital and are seeking experienced nurses with commencement on 1 January 2027 and a working time of 37 hours per week.

As a result of the health reform, we are establishing four new health and care placements and a regional out-of-house acute nursing service. Therefore we are looking for colleagues who want to help shape new patient pathways, workflows and collaboration across the hospital, municipality and general practice.

Do you want to use your professional skills close to people – both at the hospital and in their own homes?

With us you will have a daily life with many different nursing tasks. You must be able to make clinical decisions, manage complex courses and work independently. At the same time you become part of a professional community where collaboration with colleagues, patients and relatives is central.

You will be attached to a single unit and will have tasks on the ward, on the new health and care placements, and in the out-of-house acute nursing service. You will meet people with different needs – from acute illness to rehabilitation, chronic disease and care and treatment at the end of life.

A new role that you help shape

The expansion gives you the opportunity to influence how we create coherence in the patients' and citizens' trajectories. Your experiences and ideas will help develop the professional direction, new workflows and a strong culture of collaboration.

In the out-of-house acute nursing service you handle acute and subacute tasks in the citizen's own home. You perform independent clinical assessments and initiate treatment in collaboration with a doctor. You will also become an important professional sparring partner for colleagues across sectors.

At the hospital you contribute to care, treatment and rehabilitation with a focus on the individual person's needs and wishes. Collaboration with the patient and their relatives is a significant part of the task.

We are looking for you who;

  • Are a licensed nurse with clinical experience.
  • Thrive with a broad scope of tasks and both acute and longer-term pathways.
  • Can make clinical assessments, prioritize and act independently.
  • Involve patients, citizens and relatives in care and treatment.
  • Want to develop new workflows and collaborate across professions and sectors.
  • Contribute with professional curiosity, engagement and respect for others' perspectives.

With us you get

  • A varied everyday life where you use and develop your nursing professionalism.
  • Opportunity to be involved from the beginning in establishing new services.
  • A central role in creating close and coherent patient pathways on Ærø.
  • Close collaboration with colleagues and partners in and around the hospital.
  • Opportunity to contribute to the education of future colleagues.

We train both social and health care assistant apprentices and nursing students and have a well-organised study environment.

A small hospital with a wide range of tasks

Ærø Hospital is located in Ærøskøbing, close to the harbour and the ferry connection to Svendborg.

The hospital has nine beds and also four health and care placements. We also have a telemedicine hospice bed, outpatient clinic, emergency department/ reception, laboratory, radiology department and on-call doctor service. The new regional out-of-house acute nursing service will become part of the overall unit. Regional, municipal and private partners are close by.

We serve the island's approximately 6,000 residents and the many tourists who visit Ærø each year. This creates a broad range of tasks, including acute medical treatment, trauma reception, cardiac arrest treatment, care and treatment of chronically ill and dying patients, and rehabilitation after major operations at the region's other hospitals.

Ærø Hospital has existed since 1891 and, with around 45 staff, is one of the island's largest employers.
