About the job
Would you like to help create a meaningful and autonomous life for adults with developmental disabilities?
At Bofællesskabet Skødstrup hus 1-3 we are looking for an engaged and professionally strong pedagogue who wants to make a difference in the residents' everyday lives. If you are passionate about relationship work, self-determination, life mastery and interdisciplinary collaboration, this could be your next workplace.
About the position
We are seeking a qualified pedagogue for a permanent position of 37 hours per week with starting no later than 01.01.2027.
The working hours consist of mixed day and evening shifts as well as every third weekend. Our workplace is open 365 days a year.
We are flexible regarding planning of shifts, among other things if you use Letbanen, which stops just 300 meters from the residence.
You will become part of our interdisciplinary staff group, where high professionalism, integrity and collaboration are fundamental values.
About Bofællesskabet Skødstrup hus 1-3
Bofællesskabet Skødstrup is located at Tronkærgårdsvej 102, 8541 Skødstrup. The residence is surrounded by typical houses, townhouses and scenic surroundings – including a view over Aarhus Bay.
Bofællesskabet Skødstrup is a 24/7 offering for adults over 18 years old with developmental disabilities and permanently reduced physical and mental functioning.
We consist of three houses with a total of 25 residents aged 24-77 years.
Skødstrup Bofællesskab is built in accordance with the Danish Housing Act § 105, subsection 2. Social-pedagogical support and care are provided under § 85 of the Social Services Act. Help with personal care and cleaning is provided after individual assessment under § 83 of the Social Services Act.
Our professional starting point
In Bofællesskabet Skødstrup we work purposefully to strengthen residents’ learning and life mastery, so that each person has the best opportunities to master their own life.
The pedagogical support is individually tailored to each resident and ongoing follow-up meetings under § 141 action plan are held together with the resident, possibly with relatives and authorities. We set goals together with the residents based on their wishes, dreams and individual resources.
In Bofællesskabet Skødstrup we work with KRAP (Cognitive, Resource-focused and Appreciative Pedagogy) as our primary pedagogical method. This means we meet the residents with an appreciative approach and start from their resources, desires and possibilities rather than limitations. We systematically work to create understanding of each resident’s thoughts, feelings and actions, so that we can jointly develop strategies that strengthen well-being, self-determination and life mastery.
KRAP supports our ambition to explore and be open and curious when assessing the right developmental opportunities for all residents.
We work from a dialectical understanding of disability and view disability as a dynamic condition that reflects a mismatch between the individual’s prerequisites and the arrangement of the surroundings. All human development is seen in interaction with the environment and lasts a lifetime.
In a housing community for residents with permanent developmental disabilities, we work every day at the intersection of supporting residents’ right to self- and shared decision-making while providing the necessary care, support and protection. Residents must have the opportunity to make their own choices and live a life on their own terms, but some situations may involve risks to well-being, health or safety, which call for professional considerations and responsible action from staff.
The dilemma is central because both self-determination and care are fundamental values in the social-pedagogical effort. If we take on too much responsibility, we can limit residents’ independence, learning and sense of worth. Conversely, too little support may mean residents do not receive the help they need in a vulnerable life. Therefore, ongoing professional reflections, dialogue with the resident and individual assessments are required to find the right balance between respecting individual wishes and ensuring well-being, development and quality of life.
If you see yourself in this approach, we look forward to hearing from you.
Your primary base will be House 2
The position is primarily linked to House 2, where you will have your key worker responsibilities, but you will also have work days in House 1.
In Bofællesskabet Skødstrup hus 1-3 we work together to solve the core task. In practice, when a shift cannot be covered due to illness, we help each other across all three houses. Providing neighborly help is part of our training for all employees, so you feel confident in your task.
In House 2 nine residents aged 31-41 live in their own apartments around a shared kitchen and common area. The apartments are arranged with living room, bedroom, tea kitchen and bathroom, totaling about 35 m2.
The residents share a strong sense of community and many experiences together.
They particularly enjoy
- Concerts and festivals
- Activities and experiences
- Cozy moments on the sofa
- Excursions and outings
- Humor and shared laughter
- Annual camping trip
- Alone or with a partner time in the apartment
- Sleeping in late
- Trips with § 97 accompaniment or with family
The residents are all physically mobile and attend various day services in Aarhus municipality and are out of the house every weekday.
The residents place a strong emphasis on an independent life and receive help to achieve that through support and guidance.
You should expect light support for personal care to varying degrees, support for ADL tasks, as well as health-related tasks (medication, etc.) as part of everyday life in Skødstrup. But the role also includes things like supporting two residents who have fallen out with each other, a couple who do not talk to one another, a resident who is upset with the family, encouraging healthy food choices as needed, and much more.
All residents need support to structure daily life and to be guided towards the greatest possible self-determination, increased well-being and as high a quality of life as possible.
