Children need adults who stay. Adults who take responsibility, create clear boundaries and hold a safe direction – even when children react strongly, reject contact or lose footing.

At Det Grå Hus we are looking for a pedagogue or a staff member with another relevant social work education who can combine warmth and care with clear boundaries. You must be able to stay calm, uphold your professional decisions and help the child through the difficult moments without being swept away yourself.

Today we are six permanent staff and we are seeking a new colleague who will contribute with professionalism, presence and commitment in our small team.

Det Grå Hus is a small, specialized offering under Huset Konsensus with room for two children. Our ambition is to give children who have experienced strong strains early in life a home where they can land, develop and belong.

Safe relationships require clear adults

The children in our target group have experienced instability and heavy stress early in life. They may have attachment difficulties and trauma experiences, and under pressure they may need care and support corresponding to an earlier developmental level.

This places demands on us as adults. We must be able to adjust our expectations to the child’s current needs while maintaining the boundaries that create safety. When the child cannot find calm or direction themselves, it is our responsibility to maintain an overview and be clear, calm and persistent.

With us, care and boundary-setting go hand in hand. We set boundaries respectfully, follow up on agreements and create a predictable everyday life. We must be able to accommodate the child’s frustration over a boundary and still be available in the relationship.

We work with relational pedagogy as a foundation and narrative pedagogy as an identity-supporting approach. We are curious about the child’s perspective and see behavior as communication. We believe that children do the best they can with the prerequisites they have.

Our most important task is to create a home that feels like a home – with adults that the children can rely on, even on difficult days.

Working hours – long shifts with a sleeping night

The position is at a minimum of 30 fixed hours per week with the possibility of supplementing with more hours.

The work is organized with long shifts and a sleeping night duty. The shifts cover all days of the week, including weekends and holidays, and we strive for an even distribution among the staff.

The long shifts provide time for presence and continuity in the relationship. You accompany the children through daily activities, bedtime, night and morning and help create safe transitions and fewer adult handovers.

Your role with us

You will become part of a fixed team that shares responsibility for the children’s well-being and development. In daily work you will, among other things:

• Create clear, recognizable boundaries and take responsibility for maintaining them.
• Be a calm and stable adult when the child is overwhelmed, frustrated or resistant.
• Set respectful boundaries and maintain contact, also when the child reacts to them.
• Adapt demands and support to the child’s current development and capacity.
• Create a daily life with structure, care, play, humor and small successes.
• Support the children’s identity, self-understanding and belief in their own possibilities.
• Contribute to a shared professional direction so the children meet adults who work together and follow up on shared agreements.
• Engage respectfully in collaboration with parents and other important people in the children’s lives.

We are looking for someone who

• Is trained as a pedagogue or has another relevant social education degree.
• Can combine a warm and respectful approach with clear boundary setting.
• Can stay stable in emotionally demanding situations and maintain calm when it storms for the children.
• Can tolerate being met with resistance and still take responsibility for the relationship and the pedagogical direction.
• Is conscious of your own reactions and can act professionally, even when challenged.
• Is curious about what lies behind the child’s behavior.
• Can work independently and enter loyally and with commitment into a small team.
• Is open to sparring and to exploring and developing your own practice.
• Thrives with 24-hour shifts and sleeping night duty.

We expect you to actively participate in internal and external supervision, ongoing professional development and joint professional reflections. We emphasize that we speak properly with and about the children, their families and each other.
