About the job

Are you passionate about working with girls from marginalized housing areas and supporting them in organizing themselves into strong and supportive communities? And are you willing to join in when they create local activities, speak up, and demand change? Then you are the one we need!

As an intern in the SheRise project you will help coordinate our efforts across Aarhus, including in Viby, Vandtårnsområdet and Frydenlund. Here we support girls aged 13–22 to organize into strong communities where they can strengthen their relationships with other girls and actively use the communities to seek support and guidance, so they together can create change and better conditions for themselves and other young people. The project work is anchored in strong partnerships with, among other things, housing social holistic plans, local youth clubs, schools, etc.

As an intern you will support the girls' communities and facilitate activities in one or more of the areas mentioned. You will be responsible for facilitating meetings and developing workshops and teaching programs that create democratic spaces where young people can dream, create change and initiate activities – by young people, for young people. We work with themes such as anti-discrimination, friendships, empowerment, rights and diverse communities that make the girls local actors and co-creators.

Join a committed and motivated team

You will join the national youth program team, where you will receive professional input through peer mentoring, professional days and development activities. The team consists of 8 staff spread across Aarhus, Odense and Copenhagen – including a team leader, project and program managers, and project staff.

With us you become part of a dynamic and engaged team where collaboration and sparring are a natural part of everyday life. We place learning high – as an intern you will have a supervisor who provides ongoing professional sparring, talks with you about wellbeing and helps you set and achieve your learning goals. You will have the opportunity to put your own mark on projects, but you are never alone – we lift together.

As an intern we expect that you

  • Are passionate about working with young people and ensuring that young people have a voice and influence on their own lives.
  • Are willing to teach and/or facilitate processes with young people.
  • Are good at building relationships and ready to meet young people with curiosity and openness. A large part of our work is built on informal relationships with the youth, where you might talk about life's small and big dilemmas.
  • Possibly have professional knowledge about democratic participation, local democracy, anti-discrimination or the challenges and opportunities for young girls in marginalized areas.
  • Are motivated to work with volunteers.
  • Are prepared to regularly undertake administrative tasks and support internal coordination.
  • Are currently pursuing a relevant higher education (e.g., sociology, pedagogy, anthropology, education science or similar).

We offer you

  • An unpaid internship for about 25 hours per week (the exact hours will be agreed and aligned with study rules).
  • A internship period from mid-January to end of June (with flexibility).
  • Mutually flexible working hours. Since we work with young people and volunteers, we expect you to be flexible with evening and weekend hours. In return we are also flexible so you can take courses alongside and take days off.

At Mellemfolkeligt Samvirke we believe in diversity and equal opportunities for all. We therefore encourage everyone – regardless of gender and cultural, ethnic, religious or political background – to apply for the position, as we value a diverse workforce.
