About the job

Scientific assistant for

the research project Sculpting Lives

(20 hours per week)

Museum Odense is seeking a scientific assistant for a one-year appointment at the Anne Marie

Carl-Nielsen Centre. You will contribute to the research and documentation work that supports the centre's monographic main project Sculpting

Lives and the associated digital development.

About the centre and the project

Anne Marie Carl-Nielsen (1863-1945) was a pioneer and one of Denmark's most significant sculptors. Museum Odense manages the majority of her works and personal records. The Anne Marie Carl-Nielsen Centre was established in 2025 to create a lasting research-based structure around the collection and to connect the collection, research, dissemination and international collaborations.

The core of the centre's research program is Sculpting Lives , which will gather and update the research on Anne Marie Carl-Nielsen's oeuvre. The scientific assistant will play a central role in creating a precise and usable foundation for the project's further research and publication.

Tasks

Your main tasks will be

  • Research and source-critical validation of information about works, people, archive material and research literature
  • Structuring and recording of bibliographic, biographical and work-related data, as well as linking relevant sources and metadata
  • Preparation of overviews and documentation materials for the centre's ongoing research as well as monographic and digital publications

The work will be carried out under the research-disciplinary supervision of the centre director and in close collaboration with the centre's other staff as well as relevant colleagues within collection, registration and digital development.

Your profile

We envisage that you

  • have a master's degree in art history, history, literary studies or a closely related field
  • have solid research methodological competencies and experience with archive work, historical sources and systematic information retrieval
  • can translate complex source material into precise bibliographic, biographical and work-related information
  • have experience with - or good prospects to quickly learn - museum registration, databases, metadata and structured data work
  • write fluently and precisely in Danish and can work with English-language research literature and source material; knowledge of German and/or French is an advantage
  • work independently, systematically and carefully, and thrive in interdisciplinary collaboration.

The position is suitable for both recent graduates and candidates with experience from the museum, archive or research world. Experience in these areas is an advantage, but not a requirement.

We offer

  • A central role in an ambitious research and publication project with national and international outlook.
  • A defined work area with the possibility of independent responsibility and close research-professional sparring.
  • Opportunity to work in depth with an outstanding collection of works and archives in a cross-disciplinary environment.

Employment terms and workplace

The position is fixed-term for one year with a weekly working time of 20 hours. Start date 1 January 2027 or as soon as possible thereafter. Salary and other terms of employment follow the applicable collective agreement. The workplace is primarily Museum Odense in Odense. There may exceptionally be working days or shorter work periods in Copenhagen.

Application

Application deadline: 1 November 2026.

Interviews expected to be held: 11 November 2026.

Start: 1 January 2027 or as soon as possible thereafter.

For further questions about the position, please contact the centre director Emilie Boe Bierlich at telephone 22 15 26 51 or e-mail [email protected].
