About the job

Medical Research Unit at Sønderjylland Hospital seeks an engaged and ambitious specialist consultant for a full-time position that combines own research with research support close to clinical practice.

The position is essentially composed of 50% research and 50% research support. There is funding corresponding to half of the position, and it is expected that you, in collaboration with the research unit, actively work with external funding and the development of a sustainable research portfolio.

You will play a central role in this work. You must both develop your own research and support clinicians and researchers in the development and execution of research projects. A central research area will be the interaction between people, workflows and organization and a better understanding of how clinical systems function and can be developed in a complex everyday life.

Your research is expected to particularly contribute new knowledge about clinical workflows, human factors and organizational conditions with a view to developing and evaluating solutions that create value for patients, employees and the health care system.

The position provides the opportunity to build and further develop an independent research profile in close interaction with clinical environments as well as relevant national and international research partners.

  • Prepare scientific articles and disseminate research results nationally and internationally.
  • Establish and further develop relevant national and international research collaborations.
  • Identify relevant funding opportunities and prepare competitive grant applications that can support the development of own and joint research activities.

Research support and project development

  • Support clinicians and researchers in developing research ideas and research projects.
  • Contribute to the preparation of research protocols, project descriptions and grant applications.
  • Provide methodological and research-technical sparring through the various phases of research projects.
  • Contribute to planning of data collection, analysis, evaluation and dissemination.
  • Support project management and coordination of research projects across disciplines and clinical environments.
  • Contribute to scientific publications and dissemination of research results.
  • Help strengthen research competencies and research culture among the hospital's clinicians.
  • Contribute to ensuring that research is anchored in clinical needs and that new knowledge is translated and implemented in clinical practice.

Your profile

We are seeking a candidate who ideally

  • Has a PhD in the Human Factors field and has worked with Resilient Healthcare and the tools associated with it
  • Has proven research experience and a strong scientific profile.
  • Is interested in complex systems and in the interaction between people, organization and clinical practice.
  • Has strong methodological and analytical skills and experience with development and execution of research projects.
  • Has experience with practice-oriented research and interest in creating a close connection between research and clinical development.
  • Has experience with research support, supervision or professional sparring with other researchers and clinicians.
  • Has experience with grant applications and interest in building a long-term and sustainable research portfolio.
  • Works independently and in a structured way and at the same time thrives in close interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Has strong written and spoken communication skills in both Danish and English.

It is also an advantage if you

  • Have experience with both qualitative and quantitative research methods.
  • Have in-depth knowledge of the hospital sector and an understanding of clinical workflows and organizational issues.
  • Have experience with project management of larger research or development projects.
  • Have experience with preparing larger grant applications and external research funding.
  • Have experience with interdisciplinary research environments and collaboration across professions and organizational units.
  • Have experience with development, implementation and evaluation of new workflows or organizational interventions in clinical environments.

We offer

  • A full-time position where own research is combined with research support and development of the unit's research environment.
  • Opportunity to build and steer an independent research profile within workflows, human factors and organizational research.
  • Opportunity to develop research with direct bearing on clinical problems and with potential to create concrete improvements for patients and clinical practice.
  • A strong interdisciplinary research environment with close link between research, clinic and organizational development.
  • Sparring and collaboration on grant applications and external research funding.
  • Opportunity to establish and further develop national and international research collaborations.
  • Good opportunities for professional development and to contribute to the development of practice-oriented research.
