About the job

Headteacher at Østervangsskolen

Would you lead a school where wellbeing, community and motivation are at the centre? Then perhaps you are the person we are looking for as the new headteacher at Østervangsskolen in Randers Municipality.

Østervangsskolen is located in the northeast part of Randers, where, despite our city-close location, we offer spacious surroundings and attractive outdoor areas. The school is a local hub that daily forms the framework for just under 350 pupils and 80 engaged staff. Our pupil group is broadly composed and today distributed across 23 classes, covering 0–6th grade in the general stream and 0–10th grade in the school’s special department.

We are currently facing an exciting development task, as it has been politically decided to re-establish the school's upper secondary division. This starts with 7th grade in the 2027/2028 school year and will be fully rolled out to 9th grade in 2029/2030.

We are a dynamic school that views diversity as a crucial resource, and we deliberately work to build strong communities across culture and demographics. We work ambitiously with our pedagogy — among other things through problem- and project-based learning (PBL) with a focus on practice-based subject relevance, where pupils work with authentic problems.

Through our focus on Special Education in Practice (SPIP) we create inclusive frameworks in all classes, ensuring every child the optimal academic and social development. The daily life at the school is shaped by close collaboration with parents, built on trust, dialogue and shared responsibility for the children’s wellbeing.

As our leader has chosen to retire after the last 11 years, you have the opportunity to lead Østervangsskolen. We are seeking a headteacher who has a strong professional backbone and can unite the whole school—from early years and middle years to the special department—under a common direction. Together with a strong management team and an engaged staff, you will play a decisive role in shaping the school’s future development — not least the task of building our new upper division.

About the job

We are looking for a present and clear leader who makes staff, pupils, parents and the school board active players. You have deep pedagogical insight and understand how to think strategically, so the school continually develops both academic quality and the strong communities that must support all our pupils. Additionally, you have a holistic view and the ability to drive the school’s development without losing grip on daily operations — always with a focus on how wellbeing, learning, collaboration and pedagogical leadership are inextricably linked.

In selecting our upcoming leader, we also place emphasis on the following

  • You will continue the school’s vision of 'wholehearted learning in community' and a focus on practice-based subject relevance and problem-based learning (PBL).
  • You are ready to lead our new upper division, where you create a strong thread through the pupils’ entire school life and build an attractive youth environment on our existing foundation.
  • You are skilled at implementing new initiatives so they live in practice.
  • You have financial acumen and understand how to prioritise resources strategically and with a view to the whole.
  • You value team leadership highly and prioritise close collaboration within the leadership team.
  • You prioritise open and strategic collaboration with the school board.
  • You are passionate about creating inclusive communities where wellbeing and high educational attainment go hand in hand.
  • You see our cultural and social diversity as a strength and can bring pupils and families together across different backgrounds.
  • You are a trustworthy leader who naturally inspires followership.
  • You are secure in yourself, communicate clearly and create overview and structure in a busy daily life.
  • You remain calm in pressured situations and dare to make the necessary decisions.
  • You are visible in everyday life and meet others with positive expectations and a high degree of trust.

We also expect that

  • You have leadership experience from the school sector and a leadership qualification — or are well underway with one.
  • You can navigate a politically led organisation and actively contribute to cross-functional collaboration within the school leadership group.
