About the job

Vice Principal at International School Kalundborg

Would you like to work with leadership, learning and development in an international and diverse learning environment, where you help shape a school under construction?

Do you think it is fantastic when students from many countries and cultures come together in strong child communities and develop academically and personally? Could you imagine standing at the helm together with the principal to lead a dedicated staff group that is professionally skilled, dedicated and collaborative?

Does it matter to you that you can work variably with both administrative and pedagogical leadership tasks? And are you ready to engage with staff and parents who come with very different backgrounds and expectations of the school?

If yes, then this position may be something for you!

ISK

International School Kalundborg (ISK) is a young and dynamic school that opened in August 2025. In less than a year we have grown from 50 to nearly 100 pupils, and our team now counts 12 teachers from 7 different countries. This school year we have from 0-8th grade and next year we are expanding with 9th grade. We are still in the process of building the school, so you will have the opportunity to help shape how ISK develops in the coming years.

ISK is a bilingual school where teaching is in English and Danish. We are Cambridge-certified and teach according to both the Cambridge curriculum and the Danish compulsory school law. In 9th grade the pupils take Cambridge Checkpoint in English, mathematics, science and Global Perspectives and also the Danish national examination in Danish.

A large part of the staff are English-speaking and come from abroad. Therefore the language of communication at the school is generally English, and large parts of communication with pupils and parents are also in English.

The school was established by Kalundborg Municipality in accordance with the Act on Municipal International Primary Schools (KIG law). It is not just an educational institution but a strategic investment that is a central part of Kalundborg Municipality's development strategy and thus supports the municipality's development and recruitment efforts.

ISK mainly targets children of foreign staff from local companies, but Danish pupils can also be admitted if there are vacancies. This means you will work closely with international families and the municipality.

ISK is an independent school with its own leadership and school board. We are located in an existing building attached to Skolen på Herredsåsen in Kalundborg, and the two schools share among other things subject rooms, library and playground. There is close cooperation at pupil, staff and leadership levels.

We base our work on the school's values: Kindness, respect and resilience. These are not just words but a driving force for our pedagogy and didactics. We value a high professional level while strengthening the students' social skills.

At ISK we fully believe that dialogue, presence, and good collegiality create job satisfaction, and thus also better teaching. Therefore you can look forward to being part of a leadership team where you have great freedom, responsibility for your tasks and the opportunity to influence our collective tasks.

When a school grows so quickly, it requires structure, overview and patience. You will help create stable frameworks for a growing pupil and staff group, e.g., around substitute cover, working hours, coordinate with PPR and other resource persons who support the school, and collaborate with Danish- and English-speaking staff. At the same time you will help ensure that the school meets the requirements of Cambridge certification.

Our administration supports the school's development with consultants, and you will join a well-established and collaborative school system with the other vice-principal and department leaders at the public schools in Kalundborg municipality

We actively support students' wellbeing and togetherness across languages and cultures with joint gatherings and activities. We participate together with the other schools in Kalundborg in the municipality's sports and cultural offerings for schools. We have a good home-school collaboration with clear expectations of each other, and we work on strengthening our school board and parent association as an important part of the school's future.

Motivation to be vice principal at ISK

We are looking for you who wants to be a leader in public schools because you find it the most meaningful together with the school's leader, staff and parents to shape the coming generations. You who want to work together to ensure that every single child succeeds personally, academically and socially, regardless of which language and which culture they come from. You who want close collaboration with the principal to create the best framework for students and staff in a multicultural environment.

You who have pioneering spirit and patience, energy, overview and good communication skills and thrive with a busy daily life at a school in development. Since we are a school under construction, great adaptability is necessary.

In addition, your CV should include

  • A background as a teacher or another relevant education
  • Any leadership education or a willingness to take one on in the future
  • A high level of Danish and English, both spoken and written, and a global mindset
  • A desire for and preferably experience with leading in a multilingual and intercultural environment, where not only language but culture also plays a significant role
  • Preferably knowledge of collaboration with a municipal school administration, including PPR but not required.
