About the job
Are you a curious educator, occupational therapist, social worker, or do you have another relevant social educational background?
We are happy for colleagues who ask: “Why do we actually do it this way?” Because if the answer is: “I don’t actually know for sure” , then it might be worth investigating.
We actually hope you come and disturb us a little, with new perspectives, good questions and your own professional viewpoint. We will also challenge you, as none of us has all the answers.
What does the job involve?
Our occupational therapist describes the work like this
As an occupational therapist at our residence, we bring our professional knowledge into play in both daily pedagogical practice and cross-disciplinary collaboration. We work, among other things, with sensory profiles, ordinary aids and sensory-stimulating aids, observations, ADLs and activity descriptions with a focus on creating structure, well-being and meaningful participation for the individual person.
At the same time, we are an integrated part of the pedagogical staffing framework, where occupational therapy knowledge is actively translated into a safe and developing everyday life.
Our professional coordinator describes the pedagogical task like this
”We meet the individual with respect for wishes, dreams and the right to self-determination and co-determination. Through presence, recognition and strong relationships we work to ensure that citizens feel seen, heard and understood. When everyday life becomes challenging, we create security and, together with the citizen, find strategies that support mastery and opportunities for action.”
What will you do?
You will become part of the citizens’ daily lives and support them in everything from personal care and structure to activities, relationships and communication.
Many of our citizens communicate without spoken language. Therefore, it is important that you can observe and notice the small signals. A look, a movement or a change in behavior can tell us something important about the citizen’s well-being and needs.
You will, among other things, work with
- Structure and predictability in everyday life
- Communication and AAC
- ADL and personal care
- Activities and participation opportunities
- Self- and co-determination
- Documentation and follow-up on goals and interventions
- Collaboration with your colleagues in our internal activity offering
Structure and predictability are important elements in our autism educational practice. But we know that a good life also consists of experiences, community and the opportunities that arise along the way. Therefore, you must be able to help both create safe frameworks and be flexible when the citizen’s needs or the situation calls for something else.
It could be a planned bike ride in the local area, pizza in the campfire hut, ice cream in the garden on a warm summer day or a spontaneous activity that makes sense for the individual citizen. The most important thing is not always the activity itself, but the opportunities for participation, relationships, joy and development that it creates.
Documentation is part of the core task
We work purposefully with citizens’ target outcomes and sub-goals, and therefore documentation is a natural part of the work with us.
For us, it’s not about writing as much as possible. It’s about writing what is important. Your observations, the agreements you work after, what succeeds, what challenges, and what helps the citizen in daily life. Good documentation is also a help for your colleagues. What you write should make it easier for the colleague who starts after you to understand the citizen’s day, follow up on agreements and create coherence in the effort.
In this way, the documentation becomes a shared working tool that helps us work in the same direction and create continuity for the citizen, even when we are not at work at the same time.
We document in Nexus. Experience with the system is an advantage, but not a requirement.
Professionalism, development and collaboration
We are an interdisciplinary staff group consisting of, among others, pedagogues, occupational therapist, social- and health assistant, care assistants, professional coordinator and planner.
We continuously work on developing our practice through supervision, professional sparring, LA2U and AAC. We believe that different professional perspectives make us wiser, and we expect you to bring your own professionalism into play and be open to others’ input.
With us you are employed for two things: professionalism and collaboration.
We expect you to take responsibility for your tasks, contribute actively to the workplace community and help create a good working environment. We do not always have to agree, but we are curious about each other’s perspectives and hold fast to the common goal: to create the best conditions for citizens’ well-being, development and quality of life.
We do not believe that the best solution always exists with one employee. It often arises in the dialogue between different professions, experiences and perspectives. Therefore you must be able to stand by your professional judgment and be willing to let it be challenged.
Who are we?
Bodelen is part of Tornhuset, Odense Municipality’s specialized autism service. Here live 12 people aged between 35 and 55 with autism and developmental disabilities. They have different personalities, interests, needs and ways of being in the world. Several have a low to moderate functional level and need support to navigate daily life, communicate, participate in activities and create structure and predictability in their lives.
We work rehabilitatively with a focus on well-being, participation as well as self- and co-determination. Many of us have worked together for several years. This provides stability and experience, but we also seek new perspectives and professional questions that can help us continue to develop our practice. In collaboration with Autism Service Kelsbjergvej and Brain Injury Advisory, we work purposefully to strengthen our specialist knowledge and ultimately contribute to VISO assignments.
We are looking for you who
- Have a relevant social educational background
- Of course, are passionate about collaborating with adults with autism
- Are calm and professionally reflective in complex situations
- Are curious about behavior and communication
- Can work independently and take responsibility
- Document professionally and accurately
- Contribute actively to collaboration with colleagues
- Have a driver’s license
You do not need to know everything from day one. The most important is that you want to learn, develop, and become part of our professional community.
We ensure a good start
We prioritize a thorough introduction.
Your first week will be spent getting to know Tornhuset, our systems and your new colleagues. Thereafter you will be gradually introduced to Bodelen’s three building sections, so you have the opportunity to build a good knowledge of both citizens and workflows.
