About the job

The position is for you who are a Social and Healthcare Assistant (SHA) and are passionate about making a difference in the assessment and treatment of mentally vulnerable people. The position at Psychiatric Ward 4 is a maternity leave temporary position for 1 year.

Would you like to make a difference for admitted patients with psychotic disorders? Then you may be our new colleague for Psychiatric Ward 4 at the Central Danish Region Health Authority in Viborg. We are looking for a new colleague – ideally with psychiatric experience, but this is not a requirement.

Psychiatric Ward 4 is a psychosis ward with subspecialty in coercive and surrogate detention and dual-diagnosis treatment. As part of a larger reorganization in psychiatry, all core wards will begin to receive their own target group in their own ward. Therefore, as an employee you will need to be trained in this function and help implement the new work routines in the ward.

We are integrated with somatics as of January 1, 2026. The purpose of this integration is to ensure that our psychiatric patients also receive optimal somatic treatment. In this way we can contribute to increasing their life expectancy and ensure that the comorbidities they often have are handled appropriately. Therefore, as a staff member in the inpatient ward you will have ample opportunity to work across the health sector.

The position is 37 hours/week and hoped to be filled as soon as possible – preferably by January 1, 2027 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Who are we?

In Psychiatric Ward 4 we specialize in observation, assessment and treatment primarily of schizophrenia and acute psychoses. We have a subspecialty in coercive psychiatric treatment, surrogate detention and dual-diagnosis treatment. The ward has capacity for 14 patients aged 18 and older. You will meet people with complex issues requiring an individual approach, where your creativity is challenged and unconventional solutions can be the way forward.

We work with both short patient pathways where the relationship must be established quickly, and longer pathways. With us you will meet patients from all social strata and with all kinds of problems.

Who are you?

We want you to be able to keep an overview in acute situations where you must respond actively in alarm situations. You can work goal-directed and structured. You have a flair for creativity and innovation. You are curious about other people. You are professionally engaged and interested in contributing to the department’s development.

Good colleagues make a difference

We are a diverse staff group with different professional backgrounds and education – both newly trained and experienced colleagues. We welcome new colleagues with different experiences than psychiatry. We believe that our different professional skills and experiences provide good cooperation when we solve various challenges across disciplines. Through joint reflection we find an individual path for the patient and with us you are never alone with a difficult decision.

We prepare you for the job

We have a training program where you are given a thorough introduction to the ward’s work. There will be up to four weeks of buddy training and mentorship. In the first four weeks you will be an extra colleague so we have time to properly introduce you to the tasks. Courses in communicative de-escalation, conflict management, EPJ documentation and an introduction course to the organization will be planned.

In addition, we have implemented a psychiatric driving license with the vision and values the department will stand on. In the ward we prioritize opportunities for personal competence development including Nada, substance abuse treatment, PANSS, Risk-10, Suicide screening, psychiatric continuing education, etc.

Patient involvement

Patient involvement is important to us, and we have therefore asked our patients what they value in meeting their contact person. For them, it is important that you can accommodate their suffering, listen, and instill hope for a positive change in their path forward in life.

Flexible shift schedule

We use MIN PLAN to make the work schedule as flexible as possible for the individual. Currently we work every other weekend in 8-hour shifts or every third weekend in 12-hour shifts.

You will be asked at the recruitment interview to indicate at least two preferred shift blocks. With the help of MIN PLAN you have the opportunity to influence your own work schedule so that work and family life are in balance for you.

Everyday life on the ward written by staff

On a typical day in our ward you will be the contact person for 3-4 patients. There may be ward rounds or more informal social interactions where you, as the contact person, work with psychoeducation and Safeward in a safe environment.

You will be responsible for medication administration and supporting your patients in managing their specific problems. We use various safety-enhancing methods, e.g. NADA and our “Calm Down-box” with non-pharmacological measures. We focus on individual action plans, developed in collaboration with the patient.
