About us
The Ambulatory Department for Cancer Diseases is part of Medical Diseases at Sygehus Sønderjylland and is located in Sønderborg. We provide cancer treatment for patients from the four South Jutland municipalities: Sønderborg, Aabenraa, Tønder and Haderslev.
We provide preventive and life-prolonging treatment for patients with breast cancer, lung cancer and colorectal cancer. In addition, we follow patients after treatment for malignant melanoma and low-risk breast cancer. We also have the Clinic for Late Effects after Cancer (KFS), where we help patients with late effects after cancer and cancer treatment.
We work with modern oncological treatment modalities, including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, antihormonal treatment and biological medicines.
Our approach is based on a Patient-Responsible Doctor and Shared Decision-Making. We emphasise that patients are actively involved in decisions about their treatment, and that the collaboration between patients, relatives, doctors and nurses creates safe and coherent pathways.
A team that lifts together
You will become part of an oncological team with four medical specialists, chief nurse, nurses, project nurses, medical secretaries, psychologists, clinical dietitians and a social worker.
We collaborate closely with the other specialties involved in the investigation and treatment of cancer diseases. Each week we participate in seven multidisciplinary team conferences within breast, lung and colorectal cancer, as well as three radiology conferences. In addition, we have a formal collaboration with the cancer departments in Odense and Vejle regarding radiotherapy.
We believe that good patient pathways are created through professional dialogue, mutual respect and close cooperation across specialties and professions.
Research and professional development
Research is an integrated part of our work. We have an established and active Clinical Research Unit (KFE), which supports the department's clinical trials and registration in clinical quality databases.
The research unit ensures that clinical trials are conducted in accordance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP), national and international guidelines and Danish law.
If you are interested in research, there is the possibility to participate in both clinical and epidemiological research in the Medical Research Unit. You can engage in existing projects and contribute to developing new research activities focusing on translating new knowledge into better treatment and patient pathways.
Who are we looking for?
We are seeking a medical specialist in clinical oncology who wants to contribute to the continued development of our department and create good pathways for patients with cancer.
We emphasise that you
- have a high professional commitment and interest in the development of oncology

- thrive with independent responsibility and at the same time value professional sparring
- collaborate constructively across professions and specialties
- actively contribute to a good working environment and shared professional development
