About the job

Would you set the professional direction for work with children, young people and families?

Would you lead a group of skilled employees and create the framework for professionally strong interventions that make a real difference for children, young people and families in vulnerable and at-risk positions?

The Family and Youth Center in Fredericia Municipality is experiencing an increase in the number of interventions, and therefore we are now expanding the management with a new team leader position.

We are looking for a team leader who can combine professional leadership, personnel management with responsibility for daily operations. You must be able to set direction, create buy-in and support employees' professional development, while ensuring a good working environment and a sustainable handling of tasks.

You will become the primary team leader for family counselors with personnel responsibility for about 20 staff members. At the same time you will be part of an ambitious leadership team where we share responsibility for the professional development and for creating cohesive solutions for children, young people and families.

Can you see yourself in our ambitions?

With us we believe that clear leadership, strong relationships and professional reflection are important prerequisites for creating a workplace where employees thrive and develop. At the same time we want to create the best conditions for that children, young people and families experience being met with respect, understanding and involvement.

You should want to lead in a culture characterized by trust, openness and psychological safety. You must be able to be close to employees’ practice, ask curious questions and create room for reflection on the dilemmas and complex situations that arise in the work. In this way you contribute to strengthening employees’ professional judgment and create the best possible conditions for their work.

At the same time it is important that you can translate strategic goals into concrete priorities in everyday life and maintain a view of the connection between professional quality, employees’ well-being and daily operations.

Our professional foundation – a common frame of reference

In the Family and Youth Center our professional work is based on a common framework rooted in systemic and narrative approaches as well as neuro-affective developmental psychology. These perspectives contribute to a nuanced understanding of the lives, relationships and development opportunities of children, young people and families and form the basis for our professional reflections and actions.

We are focused on understanding people in the contexts they are in and on examining the stories, experiences and relational patterns that shape their lives. We believe that new perspectives, safe relationships and meaningful involvement can open up new possibilities and create a basis for development.

Mentalization is a central perspective in our professional work. We strive to be curious about our own and others’ thoughts, feelings, intentions and reactions – even when situations are complex or emotionally demanding. This applies both in our meetings with children, young people and families and in the relationships between leaders and employees, colleagues and partners.

As a team leader you will have an important task of actively bringing the professional foundation into play. You must support employees’ reflection on their own practice, qualify the professional discussions and contribute to us developing our understanding of what creates positive changes together. It requires that you can translate professional perspectives into concrete actions and create room for learning – even when the answers are not unambiguous.

An essential part of our work is to ensure that children, young people and families have real influence on their own trajectories. Their voices, perspectives and networks must be actively involved when we plan and develop interventions.

You will become part of a strong professional and management community

The Family and Youth Center is Fredericia Municipality’s operational unit on the family area and is part of Family and Health Promotion, where the Family Department, Family Area Daytime, Administration and Relief, Health Visiting and Dental Care are also organized.

In the Family and Youth Center we are about 75 employees who each day work with commitment to create positive changes for children, young people and families.

We are organized in smaller professional communities that include psychologists, family treatment, practical-pedagogical interventions, Youth Team, Infant Team, interventions for children and young people with disabilities, group interventions, companionship, family councils and holistic family interventions.

You report to the center manager and become part of a management team with three team leader colleagues. Together we set the direction for the center, prioritize resources and ensure coherence between professional development and daily operations.

You will also become part of the team leader forum in Family and Health Promotion, which consists of 14 team leaders. Here we work with common direction, coordination and collaboration across the area.

Our shared professional foundation in Family and Health Promotion is built on four guidelines: Cohesion, Involvement, Safe development and Responsibility.

The guidelines form the basis for our professional practice and collaboration.

A shared ambition for children and young people

We work from Fredericia Municipality’s view of children and youth, as described in the Policy for Children, Young People and Education.

We believe that

  • All children and young people grow when they experience companionship and cooperation.
  • All children and young people can do more when they participate in communities, friendships and meet adults who enrich their lives.
  • All children and young people shape their own lives when they are given the opportunity to do so.

This is a fundamental ambition that we translate through our professional work, our collaboration with families and our relationships to other actors around the children and young people.

We work, among other things, with the implementation of Barnets Lov (The Child Act) as well as involvement and network-inclusive methods. In addition, we collaborate closely with day care, schools, the youth and adult areas and leisure activities.

As a team leader you will be involved in supporting the collaboration and ensuring that our professional ambitions are translated into cohesive interventions for children, young people and families.

Who are you?

We imagine that you have a relevant social work background, for example as a pedagog, and experience with leadership or coordination. You understand the complexity of working with children, young people and families and want to take responsibility for both the employees’ professional development and the overall task solving.

We emphasize that you

  • Have experience with leadership or coordination and preferably a leadership postgraduate education.
  • Have an eye for the importance of mentalization in the work with families, employees and partners.
  • Can create room for professional reflection, perspective shifts and qualified sparring in complex situations.
  • Can balance professional quality, personnel management, working environment and financial sustainability.
  • Work systematically and relationally and can translate goals and strategies into concrete practice.
  • Are welcoming, collaborative and actively contribute to a committed leadership community.
  • Can navigate in a politically controlled organization and translate political and strategic goals into professional priorities.

We also expect that you can see yourself in Fredericia Municipality’s leadership and employee foundation – see link: https://www.fredericia.dk/sites/default/files/edoc_files/5363267_Ledelses-%20og%20medarbejdergrundlag%20for%20fredericia%20kommune.pdf

You do not need to know everything from day one. The most important thing is that you want the leadership task, have a solid professional stance and the ability to create buy-in and development together with the employees.

Would you like to be part of it?

We offer a newly established leadership position where you get the opportunity to influence the development of the Family and Youth Center and leave your mark on an important social task.

You will become part of an engaged professional environment and a leadership team that takes joint responsibility for creating the best possible framework for both the employees and the children, young people and families we are here for.

If you would like to apply your professional knowledge and leadership skills with us, we look forward to hearing from you.
