Technical Documentation Specialist for Afinitas

Do you want to take responsibility for the technical documentation behind complex machines and solutions – and at the same time step into a newly created role where you can influence both content and direction? On behalf of Afinitas we are seeking a Technical Documentation Specialist for a newly created position in the company’s Engineering team. Here you will be the link between engineering and the end user, responsible for collecting, structuring and conveying technical knowledge about Afinitas' machines and equipment.

As the first in the role you will have a strong influence on how Afinitas will work with technical documentation moving forward. You will have the freedom to create structure, develop standards and establish effective workflows in close collaboration with your colleagues in Engineering.

The position involves a high degree of independent responsibility. You will not only produce manuals but drive the entire documentation process – from gathering technical knowledge to finished material. At the same time you ensure the documentation is correct, thoroughly prepared and usable for those who will install, operate and maintain the equipment.

From complex technology to usable documentation You will become part of Engineering and get close to both the machines and the people who develop and work with them. You will collaborate with, among others, mechanical and electrical engineers, project managers and assemblers to understand the equipment's functions and translate their specialist knowledge into clear and professional documentation.

Your scope of work includes documentation for installation, operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, changeover and spare parts as well as instructional and training materials.

Your tasks will include, among others, to

• Drive the development of technical documentation from start to finish
• Collect and structure technical knowledge in close collaboration with the company’s subject matter experts
• Prepare manuals and instructions based on construction drawings, diagrams, contracts, order data and technical specifications
• Create graphical material and use images of machines and components in the documentation
• Prepare and upload drawings and technical documents to subcontractors
• Work on standardization and ensure a consistently high quality across the documentation

An important part of the role will also be keeping the end user in mind. The documentation should not only be technically correct – it should be logically structured, easy to navigate and make complex equipment easier to understand and work with.

Several professional paths can lead to the role There can be several professional routes into the position. You might have a background in technical documentation, Technical Writing, mechanical engineering, technical design or another relevant technical field.

The key is that you have the technical understanding to grasp complex machines and systems – and at the same time the ability to make that knowledge understandable to others.

We also envision that you

• Have experience with technical documentation, preferably from a manufacturing or machine-building company
• Can read and understand technical drawings, diagrams and specifications
• Would preferably have experience with SOLIDWORKS Composer, although it is not required
• Communicates clearly and precisely and has strong written skills
• Works in a structured way and has an eye for both detail and the overall documentation
• Can drive own tasks and maintain an overview of several projects at the same time
• Is curious and proactive when you lack technical knowledge

A role with ownership and wide contact surface At Afinitas you will get ownership of an area that is crucial for the overall delivery to the customer. You will have a high degree of autonomy in the role and will also collaborate with specialists across Engineering and the rest of the organization.

You will become part of an international company and will work with advanced technical solutions used at production facilities around the world. The role is primarily office-based, but you will also go where the technology lives – both in production and when visiting customers' production facilities.

In this way you will not only document the solutions from the desk, but also gain a real understanding of the machines, their use and the people who will work with them.
