At our latest pedagogical supervision, Børnehuset Degnebakken was placed in the highest professional quality. We are proud of that. But we do not see it as a reason to lean back. On the contrary, because high professional quality is not something you finish. It is something we create every day in our meeting with the children, in our relationships, in our reflections and in the choices we make as professionals.

Right now we are looking for a pedagogue for our nursery. And for us, the nursery is not just the beginning of institutional life, but this is where some of the most important foundations are laid.

The youngest children do not always tell us with words what they need. Therefore, we must be adults who see, feel and are curious about the children’s initiatives. Adults who understand that care and pedagogy are not opposites, but are inextricably linked.

With us, pedagogy also lies in the small moments. When a child tries on their own. When we put on socks. When we eat. When a child raises their hand. When two children discover each other. When we sing the same song again and again. And when a child needs an adult who stays, even when something is difficult.

In Degnebakken we believe

that children always do the best they can

that the presence of adults is essential for children’s security, well-being and development

that strong relationships do not arise by themselves, but require adults who are present and take responsibility

that children develop through play, relationships, participation and the small moments of everyday life

that when a child stands on the edge of the community, we must first look at the framework, the relationships and our own practice

that children have different predispositions, and therefore may need something different from us

that our professional curiosity makes us more skilled

and that it is always the adults’ responsibility to adjust the pedagogy when something becomes difficult for a child or in the child community.

It does not mean that we always have the right answer. It means that we are willing to search for it together.

Why the nursery?

Because nursery pedagogy is something quite special. You get to follow the enormous development that happens in the first years. The first relationships. The first friendships. The language that grows. The body that can do more and more. The child who slowly discovers: I can do it myself.

But you also become the adult the child can borrow calm, courage and security from. Therefore we are looking for a pedagogue who can see the big in the small.
