About the job

Do you want to contribute to equipping Denmark for the new security-political situation? Do you want to help set the strategic direction in HR for over 20,000 colleagues? And do you thrive in the tension between politics and HR? Then you may be our new colleague.

About us

Europe and Denmark are in an intensified security-political situation, and the Danish defence is undergoing a comprehensive strategic transformation that entails a historic strengthening. Security for Denmark and Danes in an increasingly complex threat landscape means that there is a need to increase the pace in building the Defence's combat power, procure materiel for large multi-billion sums, strengthen international alliances – not least NATO – and strengthen the defence in the Arctic and North Atlantic.

In the Ministry of Defence's Office for Strategic HR and Veterans, we have the overall responsibility for developing HR initiatives and strategies in accordance with political priorities and the needs of the organisation. The personnel area is an important focus area in light of the extensive build-up that the entire ministry area and especially the Defence are facing. Within the defence agreement there are already initiatives for several billions on the HR and veteran area, which we follow in close cooperation with the Defence.

We are also responsible for developing Denmark's veteran effort and for supporting the minister's visions in the area. In addition, we have the overall responsibility for a number of particularly prioritized areas related to the conditions for employees within the Ministry of Defence's area, for example the leadership area, gender equality, the working environment, salary and collective agreements.

About the position

We have many exciting tasks ahead of us. It is among other things our task to ensure that the HR and veteran initiatives that are agreed in the defence agreement become reality. This means that we must maintain the agreement's momentum so that the organisation can reach its goals for implementing the many initiatives. At the same time, in close collaboration with the Defence, we must develop new measures that can contribute to building capacity in the personnel area.

Your concrete tasks will vary, and you will among other things

  • prepare professional recommendations and decision-summaries for the minister
  • participate in the strategic development of HR and veteran areas within the organisation
  • handle citizen inquiries within the HR and veteran area
  • contribute to answering questions from the Defence Committee and the Folketing

We look forward to having you onboard, so we can together make a meaningful difference for all our colleagues in the Ministry of Defence's organisation – both those in the field and those behind their desks.

In the Ministry of Defence's organisation we believe that diversity develops the task solution. Therefore we encourage all interested regardless of background to apply for the position.

We will ask you to send your CV, a motivated application, and relevant exam transcripts via the link. If it is not possible for you to scan and attach relevant documents, please bring them to a potential interview.

Employment interviews will be held immediately after, and the recruitment process will be completed by the end of November with a view to you starting on 1 January 2027.

Application deadline is 25 October 2026.

We look forward to hearing from you

If you have further questions about the content of the position, please feel free to contact Head of Office Pernille Heering at telephone 51 79 81 86. During 22–28 October you can contact Deputy Head Ditte Friese at telephone 51 37 17 84.

Your daily place of work is Holmens Kanal 9, 1060 Copenhagen K.

As an employee of the Ministry of Defence you are subject to certain special terms. This means among other things that you must be able to undergo a security clearance and maintain this clearance throughout the employment process.

If you want to know more about salary and employment conditions, you are welcome to contact HR consultant Toke Rasmussen at tel. 32 66 59 91.

Terms of employment

You are academically educated and will be employed and paid according to the currently applicable academic contract between the Ministry of Finance and academics in the state. In addition, depending on qualifications there may be a possibility to negotiate allowances. There is an employer-financed pension scheme of 18.07% associated with the position.

Your tasks require you to handle them with overview and connect them to the organisation's overall strategies. It is expected that you are willing to take on an active role and lead from the front. It is important that you are motivated to acquire new knowledge and explore different subject areas.

It is also important for us that you show initiative and enthusiasm when working on the tasks. A large part of your work depends on good relations with colleagues from other parts of the central administration, the Ministry of Defence's department and the rest of the organisation. It is therefore important that you have good collaboration skills and are approachable.

To succeed in the role, it is important that you can develop concrete and well-thought-out solutions. You are capable of taking responsibility for and developing your own portfolio of tasks. It is important for us that you are able to give decision-makers the necessary understanding of complex subject areas through clear and concise written presentations.

About you

We are looking for an experienced consultant, and we imagine that you have a relevant academic education. You should preferably have some years of experience from a politically governed organisation. Experience with strategic HR or knowledge of the Ministry of Defence's area is an advantage, but not a requirement.

One of your future colleagues says: “The variety of tasks is really motivating for me. I am engaged in tasks that require long-term thinking, and at the same time I also handle classic urgent tasks, for example when I help prepare contributions to press inquiries, answer § 20 questions and prepare receipt notes in connection with political negotiations.”

It is expected that you can adapt to changing workloads and varying tasks, and that you are open to adjusting your working hours and tasks as needed.
