About the job

We are seeking three specialists/consultants in geriatrics for the Department of Elderly and Multimorbidity at North Zealand Hospital.

As part of a targeted investment in geriatrics, we are now expanding our specialist group with three specialists. The aim is to strengthen a professionally strong geriatric environment characterized by high specialist expertise, close collegial sparring and joint development.

Our department faces a number of major changes. Our functions will be consolidated at the New North Zealand Hospital, we take over treatment responsibility for the health and care placements in the north, and we are establishing new training programs in geriatrics.

We want to strengthen the geriatric effort both during acute admission, in outpatient offerings and in collaboration with the hospitals other specialties and the local health service. The goal is a unified geriatric department with a focus on high professional quality and coherent patient pathways across sectors.

Therefore, we are seeking colleagues who are passionate about geriatrics, value professional sparring and want to help shape a department where there is a short path from good ideas to action.

The department and the professional development

We today have six specialists in geriatrics and five specialists with a background in other internal medical specialties. The clinical work is based on the broad geriatric patient with multimorbidity, frailty and complex treatment needs.

At the same time we are developing several professional focus areas

  • Geriatric outpatient clinic and fall assessment: Our outpatient clinic handles a wide range of geriatric issues, including fall assessment. We have experienced doctors with special competencies in fall assessment, and there is opportunity to be trained in advanced fall assessment and to deepen oneself professionally in the area.
  • Integrated patient pathways: From January 1, 2027, the region takes over treatment responsibility for 169 health and care placements distributed across seven sites in North Zealand. It is a new regional task where we will help build a medical function and develop collaboration across sectors.
  • Collaboration with other specialties: We are working to develop the geriatric effort across the hospital, so our competencies are used where they make the biggest difference for patients.

The department has medical students on years 3 and 8 and a clinical associate professor attached.

Education will be an important development area in the coming years. The department already has main training physicians in general practice, and with the appointment of a new educationally responsible senior physician on 1 December 2026, we are working to establish a strong educational environment in geriatrics. We have applied to receive introductory doctors in geriatrics and are also working towards becoming an educational site for residency doctors in the specialty from the end of 2027.

There will therefore also be opportunities to engage in teaching, supervision and development of the departments educational function.

Who are you?

You are a specialist in geriatrics with a solid professional foundation and interest in working with elderly patients with complex disease courses. You may be a newly trained specialist or have several years of experience.

We are looking for professionally ambitious colleagues who want to help develop geriatrics in North Zealand. We place particular emphasis on the following:

  • Have a high level of professional ambition and emphasize quality in assessment and treatment.
  • Be professionally curious, stay updated and want to develop both your own and the departments clinical practice.
  • Be willing to take initiative and responsibility for the development of new professional offerings, functions and workflows.
  • Thrive in interdisciplinary collaboration and wish to strengthen geriatrics role in interaction with the hospital's other specialties.
  • Actively contribute to a collegial environment characterized by professional sparring, knowledge sharing and constructive dialogue.
  • Have an interest in teaching and supervision and want to contribute to building the departments medical continuing education.

We do not expect you to have experience with all these tasks, but the desire and commitment to participate in developing them together with us.

Your daily life with us

The department currently includes

  • A ward with 25 beds in Frederikssund.
  • The Elderly Admissions with 8 beds in Hillerød.
  • A geriatric team in Hillerød that assesses and triages patients for geriatric admission and conducts geriatric supervision in the emergency department.
  • Ambulatory Clinic for Geriatric Diseases in Frederikssund with a broad geriatric function, including fall assessment.
  • From January 1, 2027 the departments area of responsibility will be expanded as we take over treatment responsibility for 169 health and care placements distributed across seven sites in North Zealand.

Your clinical work will primarily be linked to the departments inpatient ward and include assessment and treatment of the geriatric patient with complex disease courses. At the same time you will be part of the development of new coherent patient pathways as the region from 2027 takes over treatment responsibility for health and care placements in North Zealand.

Here you will have the opportunity to follow patient pathways across the hospital, health and care placements and the surrounding local health sector and help develop a new way to organize the geriatric effort. In addition there will be opportunities to engage in outpatient work, teaching and development tasks.

We have a work schedule with on-site shifts in the Elderly Admissions on weekdays until 20:00 and then on-call from home from 20:00-08:00. There is a weekend shift about every fourth weekend. The night shift is covered by an independent on-call team.

Application deadline: Interviews will be held on an ongoing basis. The latest application deadline is 22.11.2026
