Region Hovedstadens Afdeling for Øjensygdomme ved Rigshospitalet-Glostrup offers 4-5 1-year introductory positions with start date 1 March 2027.

About the position

The introductory program is structured to give you solid knowledge within the diagnostic and therapeutic methods of ophthalmology. You begin employment with an intensive 2½ weeks introductory course, after which you join a clinical team and under supervision handle patient contact to a tailored extent.

Through a rotation scheme you gain insight into the department's various subspecialties and you gradually take on more responsibility. After approximately six months you enter the on-call duty function, preceded by day shifts with presence of both day and night on-call.

Educational environment and professional development

The department prioritizes medical further education and has established a structured teaching culture:

• Weekly teaching for junior doctors every Tuesday afternoon.
• Joint teaching for all doctors every second Thursday morning and one Friday afternoon monthly.
• You are attached to a fixed principal supervisor, with whom you will hold at least three formal educational conversations.
• The textbook Kanski: General Ophthalmology is part of the mandatory curriculum.

There is an opportunity to engage in scientific projects, which however is not a prerequisite for later admission to a main specialty training program.

About the department

The Department of Ophthalmology is Denmark's largest ophthalmic unit and receives patients from the entire Region Hovedstaden as well as other regions for highly specialized functions. The department is organized into professional teams covering all ophthalmology’s subspecialties. The headquarters is located at Rigshospitalet-Glostrup, where the regional acute eye emergency service is also located.

There may be tasks at the department's other locations: RH-Blegdamsvej, Hillerød and Bornholm.
