About the job

Do you want to use your specialist medical expertise where it makes a real difference to Denmark's security?

Would you like a daily life where general practice, acute assessment, prevention, teaching and operative support go hand in hand, and where you work closely with engaged colleagues in a military environment? Then the position as department physician at the Infirmary Central Denmark in Skive may be your next career step.

About us

The Defence Health Capacity (FSK) consists, besides the infirmary in Skive, of infirmaries at Karup Air Station and the barracks in Holstebro.

We provide health services equivalent to general practice to the conscripted personnel. At the same time we conduct health assessments, advise managers and units and contribute to ensuring that Defence personnel are ready to carry out their tasks – both at home and on international missions.

You will become part of a strong multidisciplinary team consisting of doctors, dentists, dental hygienists, nurses, physiotherapists, clinical assistants and military health personnel. We work in an informal culture characterized by high professionalism, helpfulness and a great deal of freedom under responsibility.

You will also become part of a nationwide professional medical community with colleagues at Defence’s other infirmaries, where professional sparring, knowledge sharing and joint development are a natural part of everyday life.

The position

You will have a broad clinical daily routine, and you will among other things

  • conduct health examinations and health assessments of conscripts and permanent staff
  • function as a general practitioner for conscripts
  • take care of diagnostics and treatment of common illnesses and injuries
  • perform work- and function-related health assessments
  • advise managers and employees on health-related issues
  • educate soldiers and military units within relevant health areas
  • contribute with supervision and professional sparring to the infirmary's other staff.

You will also have the opportunity to participate in the development of the Defence health service through involvement in national and international working groups.

An important part of the position is the operational dimension. All Defence doctors take turns in supporting exercises and international missions. This entails participation in training and exercise activities and the possibility of deployment for up to three months approximately every other year.

Your fixed workplace is at the barracks in Skive.

Professional development

The Defence invests purposefully in its doctors. You will have the opportunity to plan an individual competency development program together with the infirmary chief, where both civilian and military courses as well as education in Denmark and abroad can be included.

If you have ambitions later to work with leadership, development or operational functions, the Defence offers good opportunities for internal career development and job rotation.

About you

We imagine that you

  • are a medical specialist in a relevant specialty – preferably general practice
  • thrive with both clinical work and interdisciplinary collaboration
  • can work independently and at the same time actively participate in a strong professional community
  • want to work in a military environment with a wide variation in tasks
  • can keep an overview and make decisions, also when the pace is high.

Experience from the Defence is an advantage, but not a requirement.

If you are not already a military-trained physician, the necessary military training will be conducted after employment. The training is modular and is carried out primarily at the Center for Health and Sanitary Education in Aarhus. Here you learn soldier skills, field service, shooting, first aid under operational conditions and military leadership.

Employment terms

The position is a military specialist position.

You are employed according to the current agreement with Young Doctors in a military position as department physician in the Defence Medical Corps with an employment area that includes the Ministry of Defence and associated authorities and institutions.

Depending on your qualifications and competencies, there is a possibility for negotiation of allowances. There is an employer-financed pension scheme of 18.07%.

As an employee under the Ministry of Defence area you are subject to some special conditions. You must, among other things, be able to obtain and maintain security clearance throughout the employment.

You have, as an employee, a duty to perform service outside of the country, including at units in international operations with the aim of participating in conflict prevention, peacekeeping, peace-enforcing, humanitarian and other similar operations.

Special conditions

You should be aware that there are physical and functional health requirements attached to the position, and that there is a requirement to be deployable to international missions. This means that the employment is conditional upon passing an assessment at the Selection in the Personnel Command. The assessment consists of a physical test, a health assessment and a psychological resilience assessment.

The date of the assessment will be announced after the interviews, and will have to be carried out and clarified before we initiate salary negotiations and employment. You can read about the physical requirements at forsvaret.dk
