About the job

Would you like to use your specialist medical expertise where it makes a real difference for Denmark's security?

Would you like a daily routine where general practice, acute assessment, prevention, teaching and operative support go hand in hand, and where you work closely with engaged colleagues in a military environment?

Then the maternity leave as department physician at Infirmeri Midtjylland in Holstebro might be your next career step.

About us

Infirmeri Midtjylland is part of the Defence Health Capacity (FSK) and consists, in addition to the infirmary in Holstebro, of infirmaries at the air base in Karup and the barracks in Skive.

We provide health services equivalent to general practice to conscripts. At the same time we conduct health assessments, advise managers and units and contribute to ensuring that

the Defence's employees are ready to perform their tasks – both at home and on international missions.

You will become part of a strong multidisciplinary team consisting of doctors, dentists, dental hygienists, nurses, physiotherapists, clinic assistants and military health personnel. We work in an informal culture characterized by high professionalism, helpfulness and great freedom under responsibility.

You will also become part of a nationwide medical professional community with colleagues at the Defence's other infirmaries, where professional sparring, knowledge sharing and joint development are a natural part of everyday life.

About the position

You will have a broad clinical everyday life, and will, among other things, be responsible for:

  • conduct health examinations and health assessments of conscripts and permanent staff
  • serve as a general practitioner for conscripts
  • take care of the diagnosis and treatment of common diseases and injuries
  • perform work- and function-related health assessments
  • advise managers and staff on health-related issues
  • teach soldiers and military units in relevant health areas
  • contribute with supervision and professional sparring to the infirmary's other staff.

About you

We envision that you

  • are a medical specialist in a relevant specialty – preferably general practice
  • thrive in both clinical work and interdisciplinary collaboration
  • can work independently while actively engaging in a strong professional community
  • are keen to work in a military environment with a wide variety of tasks
  • can maintain an overview and make decisions, even when the pace is high.

Experience from the Armed Forces is an advantage, but not a requirement.

Employment terms

The position is a maternity leave cover as civilian department physician at 30 – 37 hours per week for 12 months.

You will be employed under the applicable agreement with Young Doctors in a military position as department physician in the Defence Medical Corps with an employment area comprising the Ministry of Defence and related authorities and institutions.

Your fixed workplace is at Holstebro Barracks.

Depending on your qualifications and competencies, there is the possibility of negotiating a supplement. There is an employer-funded pension scheme attached to the position at 18.07%.

As an employee under the Ministry of Defence's area you are subject to certain special terms. You must, among other things, be able to obtain security clearance and maintain the clearance throughout the employment.

You have as an employee the obligation to perform service outside the country’s borders, including with units in international operations aimed at participation in conflict prevention, peacekeeping, peacebuilding, humanitarian and other similar operations.

The application deadline is 20 November 2026.

Employment in the position from 1 January 2027 or as soon as possible thereafter.
