About the job
Are you a trained animal keeper or veterinary nurse?
Do you love working with animals of different sizes?
Are you solution-oriented, flexible and service-minded?
Then you may be our new colleague at the Biomedical Research Laboratory!
At the Biomedical Research Laboratory, Aalborg University Hospital, there is a permanent full-time position as an animal technician available to fill as of January 1, 2027.
Workplace and professional environment
The Biomedical Research Laboratory is a research and teaching laboratory for researchers, clinicians, students and external partners, who can use the laboratory for research experiments on pigs, sheep, rabbits, rats and mice or to train surgical skills in newly equipped operating rooms. We are a service unit that manages housing and care of both the hospital's and the university's experimental animals. In addition, we provide animal-science assistance and guidance regarding animal experiments to both institutions.
The Biomedical Research Laboratory is administratively anchored in Research, Education and Innovation (FUI) at Aalborg University Hospital. You can read more about the unit at Biomedical Research Laboratory (rn.dk)
You will join a dynamic team consisting of six animal technicians in addition to yourself. In addition, the department consists of a scientific head (professor of experimental surgery), a veterinarian and two operating room nurses. In collaboration with your colleagues you will have the opportunity to greatly influence the planning of your daily work. You will be included in a 6-week shift schedule with changing working hours and locations during the daytime on all days of the week. Furthermore, you must be prepared for evening/weekend and holiday work to some extent.
Your tasks
- Caring for large and small laboratory animals (mice, rats, rabbits, sheep and pigs)
- Participation in the research projects and teaching activities that the department hosts
- Conducting animal-technical assistance in various experiments
- Collaboration with our veterinarian to ensure high welfare for the animals
Your qualifications
- You are trained as an animal keeper or veterinary nurse, ideally – but not necessarily - with a specialization in laboratory animals and/or experience in veterinary anesthesia and surgery.
- You have specific theoretical and preferably practical competences in the care and handling of relevant (experimental) animals as well as the most common animal experimental procedures.
- Experience working in a modern SPF animal facility would be an advantage.
- You are interested in working with laboratory animals and value improving your skills in this field.
- You are willing and able to cooperate with colleagues, researchers and other staff groups from many different departments/specialties.
- It comes natural to you to be service-minded and flexible.
- You have a good overview, work systematically and can juggle many tasks at once.
- You have good communication skills, both orally and in writing in Danish as well as English
- You are an experienced user of IT.
- Experience with administration is an advantage.
- It is important that you are comfortable with not having contact with rodents, rabbits, sheep or pigs in your spare time.
You must have a driving licence, at least for a passenger car, as there will be a need to drive between different campuses.
Applications must be received by the region no later than Sunday 18 October 2026. Interviews are expected to be held in weeks 43/44. Please attach relevant examination papers and preferably references and/or testimonials.
