About the job
We are looking for a colleague who can join our team of skilled instructors in the building constructor education. You must have a construction-related background and be keen to both teach, supervise and participate in research and development projects.
Your duties
You are, as a person, broadly professionally grounded and able to take on teaching and development tasks within one or more of the following topics:
- Design in both new build and renovation (we expect you can design in Revit or similar software)
- Digital skills for design in MEP
- Work with fire consulting and design
- Building physics, including moisture and energy efficiency
- Working with BIM/VDC
In addition to teaching, you will also function as a supervisor on the study, internship and examination projects for the programme. Development and research projects are also a part of our daily life. You should therefore be prepared that part of your working time is spent on participating in project work.
Your professional profile
We expect that you have a relevant professional education, for example as a building designer, building engineer or architect. You preferably have a minimum of 5 years of experience with different types of construction. You have experience with the design of various types of digital projects, including BIM/VDC, and you are not afraid to adapt and learn new things. It would be a plus if you also have knowledge of MS Project, Tactplan or Sigma. The most important thing, however, is that you are able to familiarize yourself with new programs.
You are used to working project-oriented and you see the whole rather than the parts. You are good at creating and maintaining professional relationships and you are passionate about shaping the builders of the future.
If you have teaching experience and a pedagogical education, that would be an advantage, but it is not a prerequisite to become part of the teaching team for the building constructor program.
As a person you are
Good at building close relationships with both students and colleagues. You are engaged, curious, initiative-taking and open.
Your ambitions to create optimal learning paths mean that you contribute to and take initiatives for pedagogical and professional renewal; the world is changing, and so are we. Therefore, it is a natural part of your work to develop yourself for the benefit of the students, and to inspire your colleagues and the local business community.
You are a team player and are prepared to collaborate with colleagues, students, the business community, research and other stakeholders in our programmes.
We therefore expect that you are
- Outgoing, curious and with a good sense of humor
- Team player – who gives and receives from the team
- Research- and development-oriented and will contribute to creating new knowledge and solutions for the industry
The job will focus on teaching and learning, where you will participate in an experimental study environment with students and colleagues.
As we work closely with industry, you should also be willing to help create partnerships with companies and other stakeholders in the sector.
We offer
At UCL you will have the opportunity to make a clear mark on the future building sector by educating and inspiring the next generation of building constructors. At the same time you will become part of a professional environment with a great freedom to influence teaching, projects and collaborations.
The position offers good opportunities to engage in research and development activities, where new knowledge is translated into value for the education and the industry. With us, we emphasize a good balance between work and private life, while still having time to pursue your professional passion.
As a teacher in the programme you also gain real influence on the development of the programme content, pedagogy and professional direction in close collaboration with colleagues, students and the business community .
The Building Constructor programme is organised in the Department of Construction and Technology, where we are 53 staff across 11 technical/natural science educations. We place emphasis on being good colleagues in a work environment with room to grow and a focus on high professionalism in our task solving.
You will be employed in an adjunct position. This means that you must obtain lecturer qualification within the first 4 years of your employment. This process includes tasks within full-time education, research and development as well as continuing education.
If you have a bachelor’s level, you must complete a relevant master’s program before starting the adjunct program. This means that in the first 2 years of your employment you will complete your master’s program. Thereafter you transition to a 4-year adjunct program.
Employment
You will be employed on 1 February 2027 with an average working time of 37 hours per week.
Your primary place of employment will be in Odense. Since we have study trips, conferences and other relevant activities, travel activity of 5-15 days per year is expected.
The employment is governed by the circular on the agreement for Academics in the state or Circular on the Collective Agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (and CO10 – Central Organisation of 2010), as well as the regulations on the job structure for teachers at university colleges, professional bachelor’s colleges and Denmark’s Media and Journalism College. The position is covered by the principles of New Salary.
If you are hired as an adjunct, you will enter a lecturer qualification process, cf. the Regulation on lecturer qualification, lecturer evaluation and docent evaluation of teachers at university colleges, professional bachelor’s colleges, Denmark’s Media and Journalism College and certain maritime education institutions. An adjunct program lasts at most 4 years.
If you are hired as a lecturer, we would like you to be lecturer-evaluated according to the 2013 job structure.
If you are lecturer-evaluated according to previous job structures, you may, by agreement, choose that employment takes place under the previously centrally set salary and employment terms according to the 2003 job structure, which may affect the size of your lecturer allowance and the possibility of being appointed as a member of the lecturer evaluation committee.
Alternatively, you can arrange for renewed lecturer evaluation under the current job structure and under the rules in chapter 5 of the Regulation on lecturer qualification, lecturer evaluation and docent evaluation of teachers at university colleges, professional bachelor’s colleges, Denmark’s Media and Journalism College and certain maritime educational institutions. The evaluation is based on a short eight-page lecturer application concerning research and development competencies.
The application must be submitted to UCL as part of the hiring process. The evaluation takes 3-6 weeks by an external evaluation committee appointed by UCL. In case of a negative evaluation, the employment can take place under the previous job structure or as an adjunct.
UCL offers guidance in connection with the preparation of the application.
