About the job

Do you have broad knowledge in the field of psychology, and do you have the will and the ability to pass on your knowledge to upcoming social workers? Then you may be the person we need for the social work education at UC SYD.

From January 1, 2027 we are seeking a permanent assistant professor/associate professor position within the psychological field on the social work education at UC SYD. You will be responsible for teaching in the basic education as well as in UC SYD's continuing and further education programs. Since our two tenders in Esbjerg and Aabenraa are linked, there may be teaching assignments at both locations, just as a large part of our continuing and further education programs are conducted on campus in Kolding.

We do not commit to a single place of employment in advance. That is, your permanent workplace could be either Esbjerg or Aabenraa. We will keep that open until the appointment and in agreement with the new colleague we hire. We hope in this way to open up to qualified candidates from a larger geographic area.

Your responsibilities

You will plan, implement, and evaluate teaching and assessments on the education in an work environment where the sense of community in the busy daily life is prioritized. Professionalism is high and there is a focus on solving the task in a positive community, so we educate social workers we would meet if we need help and support in our own lives.

We expect you to participate in professional sparring and interdisciplinary collaboration around your teaching and other tasks on the program.

You will be expected to

  • Prepare teaching and semester plans independently and in teams
  • Teach and supervise both in in-person and online learning formats
  • Supervise students and hold examinations
  • Participate in both professional/content-related and pedagogical development of the program, both for mono-professional and interdisciplinary programs
  • Teach on and contribute to the development of continuing and further education programs within the social sector.

Your profile and background

You will join our teaching group on the social work education, which consists of teachers with backgrounds in the four subject areas of teaching: social work, social science, law, and psychology. As part of the group, it is important that you can recognize yourself in the following:

You are a clear and engaged teacher and a strong communicator - You demonstrate this, among other things, in daily collaboration with students and colleagues. You are able, based on your experience, to connect theory and practice in your teaching, so you come across as a role model for the students. You are happy to experiment to find new ways to good teaching.

Ability to put your knowledge and competencies into play - You do this in all of the program’s teaching activities. Based on practically relevant problems, you are able to create learning paths for students that contribute to a high level of learning and coherence in the education.

Works independently and creates coherence - You manage this in a job with many hats. You can stay the course so that the students can see the thread in the way the teaching is arranged throughout the program.

We also imagine that

  • You have a degree as cand.psyk or a social worker education with a relevant psychology-related master's degree, such as cand.pæd.psyk.
  • You have experience teaching adults
  • That you have practical experience from public administration.
  • You are development-oriented and can help develop the education
  • That you can work both independently and in teams.
  • It is also an advantage if you have experience with or interest in teaching digital education formats, as we are currently rolling out the digital social workers education at UC SYD.

Your colleagues

On the social work education in Esbjerg and Aabenraa you will be part of an educational environment with skilled theorists and sharp practitioners, in a group of 32 dedicated and helpful colleagues. We undertake the task in a professional community across disciplines with the aim of valuable learning for the students of the education.

At the same time, we are part of a large interprofessional environment at UC SYD.

The social work education at UC SYD has programs offered in Esbjerg and Aabenraa, run under one combined study management. You will become part of a teaching and coordinating group across the two tenders, currently consisting of 30 people. We currently run the social work education in three formats, namely as day study, as open education, and as digital education. In addition, we handle the task of continuing and further education in the social and employment sector.

Salary and employment terms

As a teacher at UC SYD you will be employed as an assistant professor or associate professor, and your employment will be subject to the regulation on the job structure at, among others, universities of applied sciences.

When employed as an assistant professor there is a requirement that within four years you complete an associate professor qualification. In this process, a larger portion of your teaching obligation must be carried out in the areas of continuing education and research/development. Direct employment as an associate professor requires prior positive associate professor appraisal under regulation no. 762 of June 25, 2013 or later regulation on associate professor qualification or positive appraisal under the rules in chapter 5 of regulation no. 673 of May 13, 2020 on associate professor qualification.

If you are already employed as an associate professor at UC SYD, you may transfer to the position, regardless of which regulation you have been appraised under.
