About the job

We look to the future. That is where we will need more sharp eyes. The operative activity in the Department of Ophthalmology is growing across Rigshospitalet's campuses. Therefore we are seeking two operating room nurses for our surgical department.

You will become part of a highly specialized operating department with functions in Glostrup, at Blegdamsvej and eventually also at the Mary Elizabeths Hospital. Here you will have the opportunity to work with the entire spectrum of eye surgery in a strong professional community, where high specialization, professional development, close interdisciplinary collaboration and a limited on-call workload go hand in hand.

Who are we? We are a staff group of 28 employees, a mix of nurses and social and health care assistants. Here you will find both morning-fit joggers and those who believe that a trip to the coffee machine counts as today’s cardio. Some bake sourdough bread, others know the local baker by name.

What binds us is that we help each other, share our knowledge and contribute to making the workday both professionally exciting and pleasant to be part of.

In short: You do not have to fit into a specific box to fit in with us.

What do we do? Our patients span a wide range. From children with a stuffed teddy bear tucked under their arm to older patients with reading glasses in their breast pocket. Common to them is that they meet us on an important day where both professionalism, care and a smile make a difference.

Although the eye is one of the body's smallest organs, the specialty encompasses an impressively broad scope. With several subspecialties and highly specialized patient pathways, there is plenty of opportunity for both immersion, learning and professional development.

We treat everything from cataracts and retinal detachments to rare eye diseases, trauma and highly specialized eye surgery. Therefore everyday life offers great variety, and no day is exactly the same.

We place great emphasis on both instrumental nursing care and the human contact. For the patient, our encounter is often brief, but it does not make it less important.

The world's best collaborators We know that every workplace claims to have the best colleagues. But our surgeons, anesthesia staff, porters and collaboration partners are actually quite close. They are skilled, helpful, solution-oriented and usually in good mood.

This makes the workday easier and more enjoyable.

Do you need experience with eye surgery? No - we do not expect you to know it all from day one.

If you are a nurse with a desire to learn, develop and become part of a strong community, we will help you on the right track; we highly prioritize both introduction, training and mentoring.

If you have experience from the operating area or other surgical specialties, of course that is a plus. But curiosity, engagement and the will to learn weigh just as heavily.

Who do we hope you are? You are first and foremost a nurse. In addition, we hope that you

  • Contribute positively to the community.
  • Are curious and want to learn something new.
  • Enjoy working closely with other professional groups.
  • Keep a cool head when the pace increases.
  • Focus on quality and patient safety.
  • Have a sense of humor and contribute to a good atmosphere in daily life.

Where will you work?

The majority of our surgical activity takes place in Glostrup, but we already staff an operating unit at Rigshospitalet Blegdamsvej several times a week.

At the same time, we are preparing for the future surgical activity at Mary Elizabeths Hospital, where the Department of Ophthalmology is expected to play a central role.

You will therefore become part of one integrated department with functions across several campuses and an opportunity to participate in an exciting development of the surgical field.

If you live closer to Blegdamsvej than Glostrup, we do not see this as a hindrance. For the right candidate there may be an opportunity for a more fixed connection to activities at Blegdamsvej and eventually also at Mary Elizabeths Hospital.
