About the job

Denmark is ramping up at a pace not seen in decades. The Danish Defence Procurement and Materiel Agency (now FMI) acquires and operates materiel capacities and digital solutions for billions, and this requires control of finance, employees and materiel and information security. If you want to help solve this task from the top of the organization, you might be our upcoming Head of the Resource Division.

About us

The Resource Division supports, among other things, that the Danish Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organization (in common parlance FMI) has the right resources in the form of finances and personnel, and that these are managed with forward-looking planning, the right priorities and within applicable governance frameworks.

In the Resource Division it is also ensured that materiel and information security in the armed forces’ materiel capabilities and IT systems is handled, just as internal military security is kept at the top.

We are about 275 employees distributed across nine departments, each with its own head at office- or department-head level.

Three departments form the basis for resource and appropriation management; the Finance, Planning and HR departments. In addition, three departments have security as their core task: materiel security, information security and military security, as well as internal operations and support for the Defence. Finally, three departments have core tasks within IT business and process optimization and central staff work.

We sit close to the decisions, both political and operational, and our work helps determine how quickly and securely the rest of the organization can deliver.

The role

As Head of the Resource Division you will lead the division, be a member of FMI’s executive management and report to the Director General of FMI. Specifically you will, among other things, be responsible for:

  • Set direction and directives for the division’s task execution and lead the task execution through the nine heads.
  • Define concrete direction for FMI’s total resource management, so acquisitions, operations and finance are integrated in a controlled process in the short and long term.
  • Assist the Director General in the overall budget management of a complex multi-billion budget and in dialogue with the ministry.
  • Translate political agreements and initiatives into plans that can be implemented in practice within FMI’s overall organization, and follow them through to completion.
  • Have overall responsibility for a balanced and risk-based effort with compliance, security and work environment in FMI, including being the main responsible for FMI’s overall effort regarding the financial control environment.
  • Represent FMI externally in a number of roles, including as chair of FMI’s Cooperation Committee (Ballerup), FMI garrison commander, the Defence materiel security inspector and contact point to other agencies in the ministerial area, including the Personnel Command and the Defence Ministry’s Accounting Agency.

You will have direct influence on how multi-billion investments are planned and administratively supported. Also on how FMI develops in the coming years.

It is a position as head of an organization that forms the foundation for FMI’s overall core tasks and your decisions will quickly be felt in the rest of the organization.

The position is available for appointment from 1 January 2027.

About you

You are a solid leader with many years of experience from management positions where you have led through other leaders. Hopefully with experience from public positions.

You are used to creating strategic direction when tasks are complex and priorities change, and you achieve results through other managers. You are just as focused on ensuring plans are carried out and results are created as you are on setting guidelines and developing your area of responsibility.

What we require

  • Leadership experience at a senior level where you have led other leaders, and where you have shown that you are a good people manager.
  • Results- and solution-oriented without losing the ability to identify development needs and translate needs into ideas and then into action.
  • Documented experience with finance and budget management in a public organization.
  • Understanding of system-supported processes and why a balanced control environment is necessary both in the financial area and in all essential core processes.
  • Documented good collaboration skills with colleagues at management and executive level, and experience with dialogue and collaboration with the departmental level.
  • Good analytical abilities and clear, precise communication - in writing and orally.
  • That you can make decisions on a basis that is not always straightforward, but where you are given a direction and a mandate.
  • That you can obtain security clearance.

It is an advantage if you have

  • Knowledge of security areas such as materiel security or information security.
  • Knowledge of state governance or political servicing.
  • Experience with organizational development or large-scale transformation.

Your background can come from the Defence, another ministerial area or from private industry. You do not need a defence background to belong here.

Employment terms

Salary and terms of employment are negotiated under the framework agreement for contract employment of managers in the state. The final salary package will depend on your background and qualifications. The position is placed in salary group 3 and will in principle be on a permanent basis. The position is tied to an employer-funded pension.

If you are already a civil servant, there is the possibility that the appointment can be as a civil servant in salary band 39 after a concrete assessment. Applications should be addressed to the King unless you are already placed in salary band 39.

As an employee of the Danish Defence, you are subject to some special terms. This includes the requirement to be able to obtain security clearance for secrets and maintain this throughout your employment period.

Your daily place of work is in Ballerup.
