About the job

Are you an ambitious and relationship‑strong leader who can achieve results through others, strengthen cross‑functional collaboration and develop patient pathways with high professional quality? And are you keen to contribute to setting the direction for the future of Heart Diseases? Then it may be you we are looking for!

About the position

As Chief Nurse you will, together with the Chief Physician, be part of the department management, where you work closely and trustfully together – both with each other and with the senior head nurses, the health administration leader and the leading physician. You report to the hospital management and have the overall responsibility for the nursing professional quality in the department. The departmental management has a joint responsibility for operations and development and are together the central driving force for the department’s strategic direction.

You will focus on exercising clear leadership, where you set a clear direction, formulate expectations and follow up, so leadership colleagues and staff know what they can expect. You are a present and visible leader who is available in day‑to‑day life and prioritises leadership and development of the ward managers. You thereby create the best framework for leaders and staff to succeed together and solve the core task with high professional quality.

You are a natural role model for interdisciplinary and cross‑organizational collaboration. This means that you actively work for good collaboration across departments, professional groups and sectors, and that you contribute to a culture where trust, respect and shared direction are in focus. At the same time you have a strong strategic vision and can translate the hospital’s strategy into concrete actions.

In your leadership of the department’s leaders you contribute to the development of the professional environments – with a particular focus on nursing and nursing professional development, the work environment and MED cooperation. You work with improvement leadership as an integrated part of your leadership practice and you dare to challenge the status quo.

Southern Jutland Hospital stands alongside our partners in the midst of extensive development. With the Health Reform 2024 there is a strengthening of the organization of the local health services, which both imposes new requirements and opens new possibilities. You will play a central role in translating the health reform’s intentions and Southern Jutland Hospital’s Strategy 2030 into meaningful solutions for both patients and staff.

What we expect

As a person and leader we place emphasis on demonstrating integrity in both your decisions and your relationships. You are listening and inclusive and understand how to bring different perspectives into play when decisions must be made. You are action‑oriented and succeed through others by actively strengthening your fellow leaders and your leadership team.

We expect you to be curious and innovative and to have the courage to try new ways of organizing work when it can strengthen quality for patients and create a good working environment. You are a nurse with solid leadership experience from the healthcare sector and a relevant leadership qualification – and you have a fundamental understanding of organization and complexity in a hospital. Most importantly, you are motivated to take responsibility for people, professionalism and development.

You thrive in a daily life where you balance safe operation with strategic development, and where you, through leading leaders together with the Chief Physician, set a clear direction and create the framework for the organization to succeed with its goals.

What we offer

You will become a central part of the management in a department with high professionalism and a strong collegial community. You will have close collaboration with the hospital management and the rest of the executive group and a unique opportunity to influence the development at Southern Jutland Hospital.

The position includes a strategic leadership role, where you, together with the other management group, are responsible for both development and operations of the entire hospital. You will become part of an organization in motion, where you have the opportunity to set direction, implement changes and see the effect in both patient pathways and workflows.

To ensure you have a good start, we will arrange an individual introduction and mentoring program, based on your experience and the department’s needs.

About the department

Heart Diseases is a specialized cardiology department that handles both acute and planned pathways for patients with heart disease. We have a 22‑bed ward, day hospital and outpatient clinics spread across several sites, with main activity in Aabenraa. We cover the entire patient pathway from investigation and treatment to follow‑up and rehabilitation.

The department is characterized by a good working environment and high patient satisfaction. This is reflected in both the department’s LUP results and the latest MTU, which are top. We emphasize a culture where collaboration, respect and open dialogue are central values, and where work is targeted at both professional quality and well‑being.

We are a larger interdisciplinary staff group of about 110 employees consisting of nurses, social and health care assistants, doctors, secretaries and other professionals, who work closely across wards and functions. Our organization supports cohesive patient pathways, so patients meet the right expertise, whether they are admitted or come on an outpatient basis.

Interdisciplinary collaboration is a fundamental element of the department’s way of working. Structured teams including doctors, nurses/ social and health care assistants, secretaries, physiotherapists, dietitians and psychologists help develop and quality‑assure the cardiology treatment courses and workflows. This provides a high professional level and opportunities for specialization within the cardiology field.

Education and competence development is an integrated part of the department’s profile. We have ongoing students and trainees from several programs and work systematically with introduction, training, supervision and continuing education. Both new and experienced staff are offered targeted competence development and are involved in development and improvement work.

As Chief Nurse you step into a department with strong professional environments and well‑documented satisfaction among both patients and staff. There is potential for continued development of both the framework, nursing, interdisciplinary collaboration and the cardiology patient pathways. At the same time you will play an important role in developing cooperation with the municipalities in line with the health reform.
