Church Wardens for Lumby and Stige Parishes

We are seeking two church sextons for Lumby and Stige, two old rural parishes, which are now city churches and part of the Odense Municipality. Lumby and Stige together have 7,990 inhabitants, of whom 6,300 are members of the Church of Denmark. Our parishes offer a very engaged and well-functioning local community in full development, with new housing areas and an active association life.

Lumby and Stige each have their own church, churchyard and parish house, but share priests, a parish council and staff. We are happy with our shared workplace, where the parish council, priests and staff, with mutual respect, take care of the tasks we as a church are set to solve. It is important for us to keep in mind what it means to be a church in our particular parishes.

Do you want to be part of it?

We would like you, as our upcoming church sexton, to take care of the following tasks

• cleaning in the parish houses, churches and the tomb house
• supervision of technical installations
• church service duties during worship services and ceremonies in the churches
• preparation and cleanup after internal and external meetings
• preparation and cleanup after memorial gatherings
• close collaboration with your fellow church sexton
• close collaboration with the clergy, organist, church singer, parish clerk, cemetery manager and the parish council
• communication with users of the churches and parish houses

Therefore we are looking for

• an energetic person with good physical fitness
• someone with strong cleaning skills
• someone who would like to be the face of our churches outwardly during worship services, religious ceremonies and events
• someone who can work independently and keep an overview
• someone who is flexible in collaboration with your church sexton colleague
• someone with situational awareness and good communication skills, both verbally, in writing and digitally
• it is an advantage if you have a driver's license and your own car

Salary, education and employment

Employment is with Lumby and Stige Parishes’ Parish Council, Skippervej 11B, 5270 Odense N. You will have Lumby and Stige Parishes in Hjallese Deanery as your area of employment.

Employment is covered by the Joint Agreement between the Ministry of Finance and Public Employees’ Organizations (OAO-S) and the Organizational Agreement for church functionaries with core duties as church sexton or sexton of the cemetery, concluded between the Ministry of Ecclesiastical Affairs and the Danish Church Sexton Association and the accompanying protocol for church sextons. It is a condition that the mandatory 5-week training for church sextons is completed within 2 years after the start of employment.

Current civil servant church sextons have the right to retain their civil service status upon appointment with direct transfer. In that case, the position must be classified.

The annual salary is to be agreed within the range of 324,667.02 kr. – 408,841.08 kr. (current kroner).

There is a readiness obligation to the position. The readiness allowance amounts to 33,230.02 kr. (current kroner) per year. OK allowance is 1,400.52 kr. (current kroner) per year.

An agreement on placement in the salary range is concluded between the parish council and the Danish Church Sexton Association. The OK allowance, as well as the readiness allowance, are quota-controlled in accordance with the position’s employment fraction. Placement occurs according to seniority.

The probation period is 3 months. The parish council can confirm that references and a criminal record check will be obtained in connection with the appointment.

Interviews are expected to be held in weeks 2 and 4, namely 14 and 15 January and 26 and 29 January 2027. Expected start date is 1 March 2027.
