Construction manager who can provide direction, quality and results

We are searching on behalf of Boligselskabet Sjælland for a construction manager who desires a central leadership role with responsibility for people, projects and development.

Boligselskabet Sjælland is its own housing association, has its own departments and has the construction management in-house. The responsibility therefore runs all the way from the initial considerations of economy and possibilities to the finished building, residents' everyday life and the subsequent operation.

Boligselskabet Sjælland builds across Zealand and wishes to contribute to the development of vibrant towns and local communities. The construction is therefore not only about housing, but also about the context they are part of – including elderly care, institutions, culture, everyday life and meeting places.

That will be your task As construction manager you shall translate the organization's strategic, visionary and value-based direction into a construction organization that delivers safely and consistently.

You shall among other things

• lead the construction function and create direction, prioritization and momentum
• ensure early and realistic clarification of the projects' economy and feasibility
• ensure precise risk analyses and clear decision points
• follow up on economy, time and quality and ensure timely escalation
• create a common project model and clear standards across the construction department
• ensure clear roles, mandates and management information in the portfolio
• create a close interaction between construction, operations, finance, resident democracy and municipal partners
• ensure systematic learning from completed and challenging projects.

You report to the construction and development director, who sets the strategic direction and develops the central relationships. As construction manager you must create the internal coherence and execution power that makes the ambitions tangible. It requires professional depth, organizational understanding and tactical acumen.

You must be visible and accessible in the construction department and able to handle difficult cases up close without taking them over yourself. Your task is primarily to make project managers and the organization around them better through clear standards, qualified sparring, prioritization and consistent follow-up.

What you bring with you You do not necessarily need to have been a construction manager before. For example you may come from a role such as sous-chef, team leader or project manager and be ready to take on the overall management responsibility.

It is essential that you

• have solid knowledge of the public sector and its particular economic, legal and democratic conditions
• have worked with a portfolio of complex new-build or renovation cases
• can understand project economics and identify risks before they turn into overruns
• can translate strategy and values into workflows, priorities and concrete behavior
• have managerial authority and can create followership
• can develop the competencies in the department so they match the construction policy
• can set precise requirements on own employees, advisors and contractors
• understand how to collaborate constructively with the company's other departments, which are part of a construction project
• see residents and operations as an integrated part of the construction task.

We do not necessarily seek the candidate with the most visible profile in the industry, but the leader who can create direction, professional pride and a steady hand in the construction portfolio.
