Consultant in Cardiology with focus on heart failure - secondment between SUH, Nykøbing F. and SUH, Roskilde

In Region Zealand there is an ongoing effort to expand collaboration between the cardiology departments across the region and with Rigshospitalet.

We would like to strengthen our patient pathways with a focus on the entire patient journey from tasks carried out at local hospitals to tasks requiring regional functions to the highly specialized treatment provided at Rigshospitalet. Our goal is to deliver high professional standards with the aim of ensuring the individual patient better diagnostic workup, faster diagnostics, and optimal treatment.

In this context, we will strengthen collaboration within heart failure by offering appointments where one has the opportunity, to a greater extent, to follow the patient and thereby have clinical functions on several sites.

With the current position, we envision that you will be employed in a specialist physician position at SUH, Nykøbing F., where you will become part of Heart Diseases with a focus on heart failure treatment.

To contribute to the above vision, you will be required to work in the heart failure clinic at SUH Roskilde one day a week and in close collaboration with the local heart failure team. There will be ample opportunities for sparring and exchanging ideas.

Furthermore, it is expected that you participate in both regional and national heart failure conferences, but also in the conference with Rigshospitalet for patients who require a highly specialized diagnostic workup and treatment. Therefore, the appointment will also include recurring focused visits at Rigshospitalet.

Thus we ensure continuity throughout the entire treatment pathway for the individual patient, as well as satisfying and meaningful tasks for the individual heart failure physician.

Description of SUH, Nykøbing F.

Cardiology at SUH, Nykøbing F. is organized as one of the four units within Medical Diseases (Cardiology, Pulmonary Diseases, Geriatric Diseases, and Gastrointestinal and Liver Diseases).

The department is classified as a main functional unit.

The inpatient ward accommodates 30 patients. Acute echocardiography is performed on the ward by echocardiography technicians.

There is substantial outpatient activity with 4-5 medical tracks daily. Ambulatory 24-hour blood pressure monitoring, Holter monitoring, TEE, exercise ECGs, and cardiac CT are performed, and there is also a AK clinic. About half a dozen well-trained clinic nurses are employed, who have independent functions such as heart failure.

Description of SUH, Roskilde

Cardiology at SUH, Roskilde has undergone a major development in recent years. The department is characterized by handling highly specialized functions, regional functions, and functions at parity with the other cardiology departments in Region Zealand, in accordance with the specialty plan.

This means that the department's catchment area and area of expertise must cover all citizens in the region.

It also means that there is a greater responsibility to ensure coherence between the surrounding region's center competencies and general cardiology in Region Zealand, so we ensure the necessary continuity in the overall patient pathway.

The department has, based on this, consolidated itself over more than a decade as an organization that places great emphasis on delivering a product of high professional quality.

The department has two monitored inpatient units with a total of 48 beds, eight day-surgery beds, and 12 monitored day beds in the Cardiac Laboratory.

The clinic in Roskilde offers both general cardiology functions and specialized cardiology functions, such as evaluation of patients for heart valve surgery, control and assessment of endocarditis, adults with congenital heart disease, family assessment of hereditary heart diseases, pacemaker control, arrhythmia and electrophysiology clinic, CT coronary angiography, cardiac MR, and complex ischemia as well as syncope assessment in collaboration with the Neurology Department.

The department in Roskilde houses a modern cardiology laboratory with five catheterization rooms for performing CAG, elective PCI, pacemaker- and ICD- implantation, as well as electrophysiology and radiofrequency ablation.

Practical information

Lolland and Falster is a particularly scenic area with houses in an affordable rental. Both Guldborgsund municipality and Region Zealand stand ready with plenty of help and guidance for newcomers, and there are good nurseries, kindergartens, and good public and private schools.

On all days of the week you can travel free by commuter bus between Copenhagen and Nykøbing F. The bus runs both morning and evening, and travel times are arranged according to shifts.
