About the job

Chief Physician for Denmark's northernmost psychiatric department - help shape the acute psychiatry and the development of a university department

Introduction

Chief physician position to be filled by 1 January 2027 or by agreement with the possibility of part-time employment and with affiliation to the on-call roster.

Do you want to lead a unit where acute, complex psychiatric trajectories meet high professionalism, strong collegiality, and a committed interdisciplinary environment?

N6 in Brønderslev is seeking a chief physician who, with clear professionalism and a strategic outlook, will help develop the department and ensure that patients receive high-quality treatment – every time.

As chief physician you will be a key player in a department where collaboration, safety and professional judgment are essential to succeed in a high-paced, varied daily routine.

About the job

N6 is an intensive bed unit with referred acute admissions function. The department is distributed across two buildings with a total of 22 beds and receives annually approximately 1300–1500 referred acute patients aged 18 and over. The patient group is broad and often complex, which requires both professional expertise, coordination and clear prioritization.

The department collaborates closely with the non-referred psychiatric emergency department in Aalborg and the somatic emergency department in Hjørring. You will become part of an overall medical group consisting of two chief physicians, a department physician and a group of resident doctors, who work side by side with a competent interdisciplinary staff consisting of nurses, social and health care assistants, occupational therapists, activity staff, social workers, a senior psychologist and secretaries.

As chief physician you have the overall responsibility for the medical quality and development at N6. You are directly the line manager for all doctors in the department, and together with the chief nursing officer you form a close and binding leadership team with shared responsibility for operations, professionalism, working environment and strategic development.

You will play a key role in setting the direction for work with acute patient pathways, strengthening the link between admission and intensive treatment, and developing the department's overall practice.

The department has also established a prevention team that works purposefully to prevent readmissions and support safe discharges; in addition we work with open admissions for a smaller group of patients.

Your tasks will include, among other things

  • strategic and professional development of the department's medical work
  • personnel management of all doctors, including well-being, development and scheduling
  • responsibility for medical treatment, quality and patient safety
  • planning of workflows, prioritization and contribution to good patient flow
  • sparring, supervision and daily professional support
  • interdisciplinary collaboration across departments, sectors and partners
  • participation in on-call duties according to the applicable on-call schedule

About you

You are a psychiatrist specialist and are motivated to lead a department where acute and intensive paths require an overview, professionalism and collaboration. You thrive in an environment with both pace and variation and have a natural ability to create calm, direction and followership.

We emphasize that you

  • have strong professional expertise and an interest in acute psychiatry
  • work in a structured and goal-oriented manner with planning and documentation
  • contribute to a positive and developing working environment
  • can make decisions in a complex and changing daily life
  • have an interest in leadership – and preferably experience
  • are keen to educate, guide and develop younger doctors and interdisciplinary staff
  • see the value in interdisciplinary sparring and holistic treatment

We offer

You will be part of a ward where professionalism, psychological safety and shared responsibility shape both culture and practice. The staff work in interdisciplinary teams and have psychotherapeutic competencies in cognitive, psychodynamic and mentalization-based therapy.

  • a strong professional environment with a high level of sparring
  • clear cross-disciplinary partners in psychiatry and somatics
  • opportunity to influence professional direction and development in acute pathways
  • focus on patient involvement via the “Patient’s Team”
