About the job

Would you like to help create a strong economic decision basis?

Would you like to work with finance close to managers and areas and at the same time contribute to a solid and fair economic decision basis for the executive and politicians in Frederikshavn Municipality?

We are seeking curious and analytical controllers who will work broadly with municipal economic management. You do not need to be a specialist. We are looking for strong economic generalists with a view to the connection between economy, operations, management and political decisions.

We are looking for two new controllers. One of our colleagues has moved to a new job, and at the same time we strengthen the controller department with an additional position. This gives us the opportunity to strengthen financial management, budget follow-up and economic sparring with the organization.

A role with both controlling and advising

As a controller you will have several roles. Sometimes you are the controller who makes an independent financial assessment, challenges assumptions and clarifies risks and consequences. Other times you are the consultant who together with managers and areas analyzes issues and finds solutions. Often you are the financial sparring partner who translates numbers and analyses into clear messages for management, the executive and the political level.

For us good collaboration does not mean always agreeing. You must be able to understand the perspectives of the departments and at the same time maintain your professional integrity and stand by a well-substantiated financial assessment.

Objectivity and a fair decision basis

We have a particular focus on the quality and objectivity of budget follow-up. The central finance department must contribute to providing the executive and politicians with a fair and professionally grounded picture of the municipality's expected finances. Your assessments must therefore be based on data, relevant assumptions and professional analysis. You must be curious about the departments' knowledge, but also be able to maintain the necessary professional distance.

We do not expect you to always have the answer in advance. We expect you to ask the right questions, investigate the issue and dare to stand by your conclusion.

Your tasks

  • Budgeting, budget follow-up, accounting, forecasts and financial sparring with heads of departments and managers.
  • Analysis of the economic development, including risks, uncertainties and important points of attention.
  • Management information and financial decision proposals to management, the executive and the political level.
  • Constructive challenge of financial assumptions and contribute to the development of financial management and workflows.

An important part of the job is being able to distinguish between detail and the overall and to communicate complex financial issues briefly and understandably.

Experienced or at the start of your career

There can be several ways into the job. Maybe you already work as a controller and want a broad role with close contact to managers and areas. Or perhaps you are newly graduated or at the start of your career and want to translate your professionalism and analytical approach into practice.

If you have experience with financial management, that is, of course, an advantage, but it is not a prerequisite.

Who are you?

Your exact educational background is less important than your way of thinking and working. You may, for example, have an economic, social science or other relevant education. We particularly emphasize that you:

  • have good economic and analytical understanding and can quickly familiarise yourself with new areas
  • can look beyond the numbers, create overview and translate analyses into short and clear messages
  • can collaborate constructively and at the same time have professional integrity to stand by your assessment
  • have a sense that economic assessments are part of a larger managerial and political context.

We see it as an advantage if you can both ask: “How can we help?” and “Can it economically hold?”.

What do we offer?

You will become part of the central finance department and a professional environment where we use each other, share knowledge and dare to challenge each other’s judgments. You will get a broad contact surface, close collaboration with the municipality's departments and managers, and insight into the interaction between economy, executive and the political level. If you are new to municipal finance, we ensure you get well into the tasks. We use KMD Opus Economy as our financial system and knowledge of it will be an advantage, but not a requirement.

In short, we are looking for controllers who can help the organization find solutions and at the same time dare to ask critical questions. For us good relationships are a prerequisite for good advising, while professional integrity and objectivity are prerequisites for good financial management.

We sit in an open-plan office at the town hall in Frederikshavn and value both professionalism and good collegiality – with room for laughter and community in everyday life. There will be an opportunity for home working, subject to task solving.

Salary and employment terms

The position is 37 hours per week. Salary according to applicable collective agreement. Work location is Frederikshavn Town Hall, Town Hall Avenue 100, 9900 Frederikshavn.
