Create safety and presence for a boy with autism

Do you have experience with autism and a calm, patient approach? We are looking for someone who can create safe environments and good moments for a loving boy in need of close support.

About the task

You will spend time with a loving boy who has infantile autism and significant cognitive challenges. He communicates without verbal language and primarily uses sounds, body language and physical contact to express himself.

The boy needs close 1:1 support, clear boundaries and predictability. He can be affected by many sensory inputs and needs help to maintain focus and find calm. In situations where he becomes frustrated, he can react physically. It is important that you meet him with calm and help him forward.

He loves sitting in the sandbox, going for walks and riding a bicycle. He also enjoys watching YouTube or relaxing with music and a light lamp. Your task is to create good moments based on his interests and needs. He does not need constant conversation or activity, but a present staff member who can read his signals and follow his pace.

You will also help with daily tasks and personal care, including meals, handwashing and diaper changes.

About you

We are seeking an educator with experience in autism. You may also have another background if you have solid experience with children with autism and extensive support needs.

You are used to working with nonverbal communication and can create structure and predictability. You have a calm approach, can read the child’s signals and know how to prevent restlessness and motivate to activities without pressuring.

Working hours

We are looking for two staff to cover around 20 hours per week.

The working hours are on weekdays from 15:00 to 17:00 and on weekends.

At mom's place weekend shifts are Saturday and Sunday in the time window 12:00–20:00. At dad's there are shifts of 5 hours, which can fall in daytime or evening hours.

The specific distribution of hours will be agreed closer; contribute with what you can.
