About the job

Would you like to help shape the dentists of the future?

The Odontological Institute is seeking dentists and dental specialists who are passionate about teaching and sharing their professional knowledge with the next generation. As a clinical instructor, you will become part of a strong relational professional community where development, collaboration and meaningfulness are at the center.

At the Odontological Institute we educate dentists and dental specialists in Orthodontics, as well as perform specialized clinical examination and treatment tasks and conduct research in all areas of dentistry.

Our overarching aim for the research is to promote public health by optimizing prevention, diagnostics and treatment of diseases in the oral and craniofacial region, and to ensure that undergraduate and postgraduate dental education is conducted on an evidence-based basis. We also incorporate simulation training and digital scanning in our teaching.

As a clinical instructor you will

  • Have the opportunity to influence and inspire students in their learning process across different disciplines, including good patient contact.
  • Be part of a collegial environment with job satisfaction and strong engagement, sparring, knowledge sharing and a common focus on quality and up-to-date professional knowledge.
  • Experience strong professional and pedagogical development – both for the students and yourself.
  • Have the opportunity to use your skills in meaningful contexts.

It is a job for you if you want to make a difference – not only for patients, but also for the profession and for upcoming generations of dentists.

Job Description

We are fully implementing our new study programs, which means we will work more in interprofessional teams. This means we need educators who are broadly educated, but also enjoy delving into their professional interests. You will have the opportunity to influence and develop the teaching, learning processes and the community. The implementation of the new study programs will occur gradually. We have started with Semester 1 of the Bachelor program and Semester 1 of the Master’s program from September 2026.

We have vacant positions in several disciplines, and we will do our best to accommodate your wishes and utilize your special competencies within dentistry as far as possible. Therefore you are encouraged in your application to describe any particular interests and competencies you have within the field. Please also indicate which days you can work.

Teaching at the clinic takes place Monday–Friday between 08:15 and 13:50 (1st and 2nd belt). The hours are arranged by agreement, and you are typically offered 2 belts per day. There will also be 1–2 evening meetings per semester. Each semester is 15 weeks with the students, and in weeks without students we learn together, follow up with patients, refer new patients to teaching, and enjoy time with our colleagues.

You will help facilitate knowledge, instruct, guide and mentor dental students in practical skills at the institute’s teaching clinics. Here you will interact with students from 4th to 10th semester. In clinical practice we always work according to current guidelines and didactic/educational principles to ensure that the learning environment is optimal and that our students thrive, just as we place a strong focus on giving and receiving feedback on an ongoing basis.

As a clinical instructor you are also expected to carry out other clinical tasks and teaching within several disciplines. It is expected that you stay updated with the guidelines and directives used at the Odontological Institute.

You will also have the opportunity to develop your teaching skills, and we therefore offer, among other things, case-based workshops on relevant didactic topics.

We offer evening courses and after-work meetings where you can stay up-to-date within the different disciplines and meet and consult with your colleagues. You also have the option to visit a colleague and follow their teaching.

On a daily basis you will report to the heads of the disciplines and to the clinic director.

Qualifications

To apply for these positions, you must have a dental degree. If you have trained outside Denmark, your education must be approved by the Danish Patient Safety Authority. You must also have obtained the right to practice independently. The students work under your authorization.

For employment in Orthodontics, it is a prerequisite that you have obtained authorization as a dental specialist in Orthodontics.

Salary and terms of employment

Employment is in accordance with the applicable collective agreement for clinical instructors/department dentists in dentistry between the Ministry of Finance and AC (The Danish Dental Association). Expected start date: January 15, 2027.

Before you start, there will be an introduction to, among other things, the clinic including the electronic patient journal.

Clinical instructors/department dentists are employed outside the school’s vacation periods, which means that service time is scheduled according to the institute’s current plan for clinic operations. Teaching tasks take place while the students are at the clinic. The service time may vary for the spring and autumn semesters, and the hours are allocated according to the teaching schedules.

Clinical instructors are employed for a 2-year period with the possibility of subsequent extension for 2 years or permanent employment.

Department dentists are employed for a 3-year period with the possibility of subsequent permanent employment.

The employment procedure is further described in the ministry’s Regulation on the employment of scientific personnel at universities (https://www.retsinformation.dk/eli/lta/2012/242)

Qualifications requirements and job content are described further in Job structure for scientific personnel at universities (https://jobportal.ku.dk/videnskabelige-stillinger/karriere-paa-ku/)
