About the job

Are you eager to be a leading key player for the operational HR and personnel administration at the Operational Support Command?

We are seeking an experienced and motivating deputy commander and caseworker who can create direction and coherence, and who has a view for both people, operations and the organization.

Are you motivated by joining a management team in a geographically distributed organization, ensuring high quality in daily operations and at the same time developing processes, forms of collaboration and solutions across a large authority area?

Can you advise the top management, make decisions and maintain an overview in a daily life with high complexity and shifting priorities?

Then the job as deputy commander with us might be the right fit for you!

About us

The Operational Support Command is a newly established authority whose core task is to ensure cross-cutting coordination and effective operational support within logistics, health and maintenance. We have our headquarters in Brabrand near Aarhus.

With the collective expertise from our four underlying authorities; Defence Health Capacity, Defence Maintenance Service, Joint Movement and Transportation Organization, and Defence Supply Service, the Operational Support Command contributes to ensuring that the Armed Forces' operational units have the necessary support and the right resources to perform their tasks – both in national readiness and international operations.

We are still shaping both the organization, workflows and culture. It gives you the opportunity to contribute to developing the way we work. We place a strong emphasis on professionalism, integrity and quality, but also on a work environment where we help across and have an informal tone.

We have an ambition to build a staff where professionalism, integrity and mutual trust are the foundation – and where we together find the solutions that yield the greatest effect for the units we support. We emphasize ongoing competence development for both managers and employees and offer favorable working conditions, focusing on good physical premises and an informal tone.

About the position

You contribute to advising both the staff chief, the deputy chief and the head of the Operational Support Command on personnel administrative and organizational matters.

You join a leadership team that has the overall responsibility for the Operational Support Command's operational HR and personnel administration and contributes to the overall task solving and resource utilization, through the eight administrative elements and their leaders.

You will have the opportunity to shape the organizational and personnel development of a new authority and join the leadership of a large and geographically distributed organization with skilled employees and managers, where you have a central advisory role, close to the top management.

You shall help ensure that the staff at the Operational Support Command and the four underlying authorities receive continuous, professional and timely personnel administrative support.

You prioritize and handle incoming tasks related to operational HR and personnel administration and have an eye for the overall task portfolio both decentralally and locally, so that employees and managers have the best possible framework, the necessary time and the relevant tools to solve their tasks.

The position also entails an overarching responsibility for the administrative points of contact in the Operational Support Command as well as for the authority area’s handling of reserve personnel, including support for mobilization of reserve personnel. We also assist with administration in connection with the Operational Support Command’s contribution to international operations, with particular focus on Task Force Lone Operator and deployment of health professionals, in collaboration with Defence Health Capacity.

The Operational Support Command is still under construction and you should expect that changes can occur in the position’s content, responsibilities and tasks. The position therefore contains a significant development perspective, where you have the opportunity to shape the organization and development of the operational HR and personnel administration.

The tasks include, among others

  • Involve, coordinate and closely collaborate with HR partners on strategic HR matters.
  • Contribute with advice and guidance on the personnel and organizational development in the Operational Support Command and the underlying authorities.
  • Ensure a clear and well-functioning coherence between strategic HR and operational HR.
  • Daily personnel administration.

As deputy commander you will also be the deputy for the head and represent the Operational Support Command in internal and external fora within the organization’s area of responsibility, and participate in / lead relevant working, governance and project implementation groups.

We prioritize daily between tasks with different time horizons and degrees of complexity. Some cases require quick action, while others require thorough analysis, extensive coordination and a longer development perspective.

About you

We expect you to be an experienced academic with a solid managerial foundation, strong relational competences and a clear holistic view. You must be able to see the connection between people, the organization, resources and operational needs and through your task execution ensure that the organization actively contributes to the Operational Support Command’s overall task solving.

Since you will also function as a deputy, it is an advantage if you have experience in leading managers and employees and can create common direction and coherence in an organization with different professional backgrounds, working conditions and geographical locations. It is also advantageous if you have experience with managing and coordinating complex case and decision processes.

You must be able to make decisions and stand by them. At the same time you must be able to identify when a case has a principled or strategic character and therefore should be escalated to the staff chief or the head of the Operational Support Command.

We expect that you

  • Can combine clear direction with trust and delegation.
  • Are available, proper and relational in your working style.
  • Have a view for both the task, the organization and the individual employee.
  • Are collaborative and relationship-building and can create constructive cooperation relationships.
  • Are a strong communicator both in writing and orally, at several levels.
  • Have political and organizational understanding.
  • Are development-oriented and have a sense of how processes, structures and workflows can be improved.
  • Can balance development and operations and translate strategic ambitions into solutions that work in practice

Experience from HR, personnel or administrative areas is a significant advantage. The same applies to experience from service across the Defence Command’s authority area

Employment terms

Depending on your qualifications and competencies, there is an opportunity for negotiation of supplements. There is an employer-funded pension scheme attached to the position.

As an employee under the Ministry of Defence’s area you are subject to some special conditions. You must, among other things, be security cleared and maintain the security clearance during the entire employment.
