About the job

Are you passionate about setting direction and seeing your employees grow professionally? At the Danish Agency for International Recruitment and Integration (SIRI) we are seeking a deputy head who keeps an overview in a high tempo, wants to combine leadership with deep legal expertise and be the office chief's right-hand and employees' sparring partner.

Welcome to SIRI

At SIRI we process applications for residence and work permits for foreigners from around the world who want to work or study in Denmark. We ensure EU citizens easy and quick access to Denmark, advise municipalities on integration and prevention of negative social control and develop tests in Danish and knowledge about Denmark.

In SIRI digitalisation is an important part of our everyday life. We work with new technological possibilities e.g. AI to strengthen an efficient and secure task execution and create value for citizens, businesses and employees.

You can read more about SIRI and what it’s like to work with us here .

You will become part of the Extension Office

You will become part of an office with 30 dedicated employees who daily ensure that companies can retain the foreign workforce they need, and that researchers, skilled workers and other specialists can continue their work in Denmark. These are cases that matter for the individual, for business and for society.

We process extension cases within a wide range of employment schemes, including Fast track, Beløb and Særlige individuelle kvalifikationer. We also have responsibility for:

  • dispensation from expiry
  • hearings on permanent residence based on SIRI’s employment and study schemes
  • SIRENE unit, including SIS and EEA issues
  • close contact with other authorities and dialogue with organizations in the employment sector
  • contribution to hosting the Economic Forum in Copenhagen.

Because we process extensions of cases from most of the agency's case handling offices, we operate at a natural crossroad. This makes cross-agency coordination a central part of our daily work and gives you unique insight into the agency's entire portfolio of tasks.

Your tasks

As deputy head you will be the office chief's closest sparring partner and part of the daily management together with three team coordinators. You will have independent responsibility for the office's professional quality and become the one employees turn to when a case is complex.

Your main tasks will include

  • lead the office's professional leadership in daily clarifications and in the strategic professional direction
  • write and quality assure professional notes and handle orders from the board and the ministry
  • participate in professional clarifications across the house and with other authorities
  • coordinate with the agency's other offices so case handling hangs together across
  • get to know proposed legislation and translate new rules into practice in the office
  • develop employees' and the office's professionalism through sparring, training and knowledge sharing
  • contribute to governance and prioritization of tasks

Who are you?

You are educated cand.jur. or have an equivalent education with solid legal experience. We would like you to:

  • be professionally sharp, detail-oriented, work independently and take initiative
  • write clearly and precisely, even when the material is complex and the recipient is the ministry
  • have political tact and know when a case should be raised, and who should be involved when
  • dare to make decisions and push back when necessary
  • delegate, teach, and see employees as teammates in the office's leadership
  • build trust and contribute to a good atmosphere
  • be able to take the professional discussion in a professional manner, and be solution-oriented without being conflict-averse
  • be open to change and development, and at the same time understand the value of stability in a busy operations organization.

Knowledge of immigration law and experience from a politically led organization and/or experience with informal leadership, e.g. as team coordinator, professional coordinator or project manager, is an advantage but not required. The most important is that you are curious and quickly can understand new regulatory frameworks.

We offer you

With us you get a position with real influence on the office's professional direction and a close collaboration with your office chief. We also offer you:

  • a office with skilled and engaged employees who are happy to share knowledge and spar
  • a casual tone and a culture where we believe that professionalism and well-being go hand in hand
  • a leadership forum with the agency's other deputy heads and managers, where we continuously discuss and reflect on leadership
  • a group with structured focus on leadership development and internal mobility
  • influence on your own training program as well as flexibility in arranging working hours with the possibility of remote work

If you have questions about the position, you are welcome to contact office chief Maria Wenzel Sørensen at tel.: 72 14 25 51.
