About the job

Do you want to help strengthen and develop the Port of the Future in Svendborg, its maritime history and the landscape qualities? Do you want to help make the most important things better instead of striving for more, bigger, more and faster, so everyone can live and experience the good life in Svendborg? Then you may be our new development consultant!

Svendborg Municipality is evolving. We have a high influx of people, many exciting development projects and a vibrant level of activity. By Svendborg Harbour and in the city's development areas we are busy turning visions and plans into concrete projects that create value for the whole of Svendborg.

We have more tasks than we have hands, and therefore we are now looking for a new colleague who can help mature and drive some of the municipality’s most strategic, complex and exciting development projects .

About the job

As a new colleague in the Port and City team, you will play an important role in shaping Svendborg’s development. You will join cross-cutting projects as a project participant and as a project manager be responsible for driving several concrete projects.

Currently, we are among other things working with

  • Development and realization of a parking garage at the harbour
  • Development of temporary youth housing in connection with the new educational institutions
  • Collaboration with Realdania on the development of the so-called blue zones
  • Climate adaptation of the harbour area with a focus on added value and urban quality
  • Development of future projects within new housing types, recreational areas, opening of waterways and transformation of existing buildings and warehouses.

Your tasks will among other things be to

  • lead and coordinate complex projects across the organisation
  • drive development and planning processes from idea to realization
  • create momentum and ensure coherence between strategy, planning and execution
  • facilitate collaboration between many different actors and professional disciplines
  • prepare decision proposals and service the political level
  • contribute to the development of procurement, partnerships and collaboration models
  • ensure that the projects contribute to the municipality’s overall development goals.

The starting point for our work in Harbour and City is the Development Plan for The Port of the Future, 2025. You can find it on our website www.fremtidenshavn.dk

The municipality's distinctive strengths are set out in the overarching Development Strategy 2023, which also serves as the municipality's planning strategy. You can find it on the municipality’s website, https://www.svendborg.dk/politik-og-indflydelse/udvikling/udviklingsstrategi-fra-mere-til-bedre/

About you

We are looking for the skilled project manager who easily finds the balance between driving projects forward, using the latest knowledge and professional expertise, and involving and listening to colleagues, citizens and business life. You must be an outstanding team player

Your educational background is less important to us. You could be an urban planner, land surveyor, architect, engineer, geographer or have another relevant profile. The crucial thing is that you are passionate about urban development and have experience in turning complex ideas into concrete projects.

We expect that you

  • have an understanding of strategic urban development and can connect individual projects to larger contexts
  • are strong in project and process management
  • have experience in delivering results through collaboration and relationships
  • can help set direction and create followership without formal personnel responsibility
  • thrive with many stakeholders and different agendas
  • can mature projects and lead them forward to the construction phase
  • work in a structured way and have an eye for both the big picture and details
  • are curious, pragmatic and can navigate constructively in complex processes and projects where frameworks and assumptions change along the way.
  • are patient. Good urban planning takes time.

It is an advantage if you have experience from a politically governed organisation, but it is not a requirement. It is, however, a requirement that you are an outstanding team player, focused on making your colleagues better and understand how to navigate the shifting considerations that a politically governed organisation entails.

About us

You will become part of Building and City Development, consisting of Building and Building Register, Planning Department and the Harbour and City Team.

We work on Frederiksø, centrally at Svendborg Harbour, and we are a department with a wonderful mix of experienced personnel and new faces who have joined in recent years. The professionalism and engagement are high and together we create a department where well-being and task solving go hand in hand.

We collaborate with all municipal administrations, and we are committed to a holistic approach to planning and project development to ensure that the politically decided projects become a reality.

You will be part of the Harbour and City team, a small team of 5 (including you) who work with development projects of strategic importance for both the harbour and the city. We help to develop, coordinate and realise projects that shape Svendborg’s future. We follow the projects all the way from the first ideas and sketches to the projects being mature, planned and ready for realization. Most often we are project managers in the development phase and project participants in the construction phase, in close collaboration with colleagues with planning, legal or construction technical competencies.

You will become part of a professionally strong environment where we help each other, share knowledge and lift collectively. The department is characterised by an informal, yet professional approach to tasks, which takes place in close dialogue with relevant colleagues, citizens, business life, stakeholders and politicians. We have an organisation with short decision-making paths, we base our collaboration on trust and we fundamentally believe that it should be fun and meaningful to go to work.

Therefore, it is important for us that there is a good balance between work and leisure, and you can therefore expect a high degree of flexibility, whether it is about home-working days or pick-up arrangements.

About Svendborg Municipality

Svendborg Municipality is, in our view, a workplace of a perfectly manageable size: We are small enough to be close to each other in a warm, informal community with short lines of command and without hidden agendas. And we are large enough to have plenty of room for ambitions, high professionalism and rich development opportunities.

We value everyday life and insist that it should be pleasant to go to work. We are busy, but not too busy to help each other.

Our values are not just on paper; we actually use them as a compass every day. We meet each other at eye level, in dialogue and with trust, and together we create a safe framework where we can solve our tasks independently, flexibly and responsibly.

Salary and employment

The position is a permanent full-time role with a start date of 1 January 2027.

Salary and terms of employment are negotiated according to the applicable collective agreement between KL and the trade union organization.

In Svendborg Municipality the salary for this type of position is between DKK 52,969 and 67,203 per month for full-time employment. The salary includes pension, special holiday allowance and fixed allowances. There may also be time-based allowances and other special payments. It is important to note that your specific salary will be determined based on your experience, seniority and competencies and agreed upon in negotiations with the relevant trade union organization.

We offer great flexibility in task planning and the possibility of home working.

You will have your workplace on Frederiksø, at the harbour by Svendborg town, a 2-minute walk from the station.

Svendborg Municipality has a smoke-free working environment. We want smoke-free work time to contribute to a healthy working environment for all employees.

The application deadline is Friday, 13 November 2026 at 08:00, and we will hold interviews on Wednesday, 18 November 2026. A possible follow-up interview will take place Tuesday, 24 November 2026.

If you want to hear more about the position, you are welcome to contact the head of department for Building and City Development, Anders Tang Kjærved on tel. 5168 8131 or Jette Flinch Nyrop on tel. 2371 7559.

All inquiries will be treated confidentially.

We look forward to hearing from you!

Welcome to Svendborg - the capital of the Archipelago!

Our day-care and primary schools are top-tier with a particular focus on movement and sport, and we have several higher education institutions that will soon be gathered in an attractive educational environment by the harbour.
